The weather may not have been ideal, but that didn't stop some of the country's leading footballers from tying the knot in a weekend wedding extravaganza. It was a WAG (Wives and Girlfriends) frenzy with four big ceremonies taking place over the weekend to mark the end of football season. England football captain John Terry kicked things off last Friday with his wedding to Toni Poole at Blenheim Palace. The lavish affair was kept under wraps and away from the paparazzi among reports they have sold exclusive photo rights to OK! magazine.
Three more couples followed suit with weddings from Manchester United players Gary Neville and Michael Carrick and Liverpool player Steven Gerrard. Finally, let's not forget Rod Stewart who reportedly wed his long-time girlfriend Penny Lancaster also on the weekend... crikey, the old hat definitely got a good working out!
After months of tears, cat fights and stress (and that was just around the CQ office) WAGs Boutique has finally come to an end. I think you may agree that the final episode, which included a fashion show (above), was a classy way to end the series that has drawn more publicity and money for Great Ormond Street charity than anyone could have hoped for. You can thank those darn pink hoodies for that! And I suppose at the end of the day, no matter what the premise of the show was or whether there was ever meant to be a premise, the fact that the show managed to raise awareness and cash for a worthy cause is all that matters. For those who are interested Bows came out on top as the final winners, raking in a total profit of £320,916.77. The winning WAG was Krystelle who won her own column in Reveal magazine. Just because the boutiques may be closing their doors that doesn't mean Great Ormond Street is - you can continue to make donations here. [Images: Sky Showbiz]
Which WAGs fight in front of their customers in this week's episode? It's Krystell and Julie from Bows Boutique. When trouble-maker Michaela convinces Julie to leg it to the shops for 20 minutes without first informing this week's shop manager Krystell, a firey confrontation in front of store customers ensues. And just like in every other episode it's not long before one of the WAGs locks herself in the toilet to cry. Better Half is leading the race with a 3-2 lead over Bows. This week's challenge is to design a advertising campaign which will be displayed across London's billboards. Tune into ITV2 at 9pm to see who wins.
Another week, another exciting WAGs Boutique episode or as I like to refer to it Michaela versus Julie - Round 1. With Julie finally voted store manager, it all goes pear-shaped when she ends up in a heated row with brat Michaela. With a queue reportedly around the block (somehow I doubt this) Michaela decides to go shopping leaving the customers to the rest of her team to deal with. When she returns to discover that two of the girls have been given the nod to leave early, she starts screaming at Julie in front of customers, only with such an indecipherable accent who knew what she was actually saying. Ever heard of subtitles ITV2?
I have been tuning into WAGs Boutique for a whole two weeks now which I think qualifies me as a WAGs expert. The fact that I can only remember two of the WAGs names and still have no idea who their footballer boyfriends/husbands are or which teams they play for, matters not as WAGs Boutique is all about fashion and that's my forte. So when I discovered that the WAGs stores were not too far away from Shiny Towers, Isabelle and I took it upon ourselves to pay the WAGs a visit and just like their reality TV show, we were left disappointed, bored and wondering where the heck everyone was.
The things I do for Catwalk Queen... After sitting through last week's episode of WAGs Boutique and wondering why I had bothered, last night I sat and watched it - again! And needless to say, by the end of the episode (which seemed like an eternity) I was once again left feeling unsatisfied, bordering on self-hatred, for having wasted an hour of my precious time. Nevertheless, as a representative (or something along those lines) of all things fashion-related in London, I am committed to bringing you all the goss on what takes place at the WAGs Boutiques, which could really be summed up in two words - not much.
Until last night, I was a WAGs Boutique virgin, and like most "first times" I was left wondering what all the hype was about. Not that I had expected groundbreaking things from a reality show (moan!) based on the wives and girlfriends of football players, most of whom I'd never even heard of (where was Colleen?) and their attempts to battle each other out via rival clothing boutiques. But then again, never do they claim it to be otherwise. After all, what else can you expect to see from a girl versus girl competition involving minor celebrities and fashion other than bitching, crying, bitching and more crying? Nevertheless, it did provide some insight into what you may never have seen before, and that is the true marketing power of a reality star, no matter what they are selling or for how much.
