Get a discount on vintage pieces at FemminaStyle.com

femminastyle-dress.jpg

Femminastyle.com specializes in vintage clothing and accessories from the 1950's-1980's, and their prices are usually quite reasonable for a online vintage store. Sometimes the prices are more of a bargain than on eBay because you’re not competing against a bunch of strangers to get the bargain, and the price just keeps getting higher and higher. FemminaStyle.com also include a description and most importantly (in my view) a guesstimate on what what era piece of clothing is from. Use code ilovevintage at checkout to receive 15% off your order.

Here are some of our favourite dresses from left to right: Flower Button Mini Dress, Bow Dress, Tropical Tube Dress, Purple Swirl Shift Dress.

Catwalk Queen top 10 vintage sites, part 1

vintage%20bag.JPGOn Catwalk Queen we love the high street, but we know as well as anyone that a wardrobe cannot be made of chain store clothing alone. I've picked out my top ten vintage websites for those girls who want the retro look but don't have the time to go rifling through car boots and charity shops. Prices are usually cheaper than chain stores but vary according to sites, I generally wouldn’t bother paying over odds unless it was something really special (red plastic deer brooch anyone?!) See after the jump for my picks from 10 to 6 are below, and check back tomorrow for numbers 5 to 1.

Retro clothes and cocktails at South London Pacific

vintage%20retro.gifHidden in the depths of darkest South London is a little-known oasis of retro style, which also happens to shake up some of the best fresh fruit cocktails in town. South London Pacific is a Hawaiian-themed Tiki bar which has recently started to play host to some of the UK's most talented retro designers and vintage sellers, and they'll be holding their next vintage and retro fair on 1st April.

When I attended their Christmas fair last year, there were appearences from a real mix of labels including faux-vintage lingerie specialists What Katie Did, whose bullet-bras and seamed stockings have made the label a huge hit with 50s retro-babes, rockabillies and Bettie Page fans. Retro L'Amour had a selection of their wonderfully kitsch '30s, '40s and '50s-inspired handcrafted gifts. Also propping up the bar was Nina the Head Dresser, who makes the cutest fascinators and decorative period hats I've seen, each a one-off piece. You can expect more of the same on Saturday, so why not don your most fabulous retro gear (the shoppers really dress up), grab yourself a Mai Tai, and say 'aloha' to some authentic period style.

ECO-CHIC Fashion & Ethics show in Oxford 16 March

DSC00362.JPG DSC00388.JPG DSC00371.JPG

While an eco fashion show raising money for Comic Relief in an Oxford nightclub may not sound as glamorous as front row seats at Marc Jacobs' first London Fashion Week show, the Ethical Fashion Forum did their damndest to make sure it was as close to the real thing as possible.

The show started nearly an hour later than expected - although guests were mollified with a range of canapes - and there was enough chaos front of house to keep any fashionista happy. Separating the Oxford venture from the world of high fashion was the homely touches: coltish students practicing their model walks along a line of white tape on the floor, proud parents arguing over the operation of their digital cameras, and groups of boys wolf-whistling at every sashay.

Frock Me, baby! Vintage fashion at its finest

frock-me.jpgLike your fashion vintage style? Better get yourself down to London town, then, where the vintage fashion event of the year is taking place on the 15th of April. It's called Frock Me, and actually, it takes place several times each year, so if you can't make this one you won't have to miss out completely. The event takes place in Chelsea Town Hall, and you'll find around 50 vintage fashion sellers ready to offer you their wares. You'll be in good company, too: celebrities and big name designers are often spotted searching for inspiration amongst the stalls. There's some more information at the Frock Me website.

Vintage eBay raid

I find the most random things when searching eBay for clothes. One of the best searches you can do is to simply to type 'vintage' into different categories. About 85% of the stuff that comes up isn't vintage at all, but there are still some great bargains to be had from the vintage 'style' finds if you avoid the evil money-grabbers who use eBay as a way of making a profit on their Primark splurges. Here are some of my favourite finds from today...

ebayfinds2.jpg
Graphic belted dress UK 10 (currently £12.99) ends 3.55pm today, Retro square print tunic dress UK 12 - 14 (currently £10.99) ends in 6 days, Retro print tunic blouse UK 10(currently £7.99) ends in 3 days, vintage 80s style smokey big frame sunglasses (currently £8) ends 7.04pm today.
