lilyallen_goodwoodfestival_launch.jpg

Loving this! Ever since Lily Allen dropped a bombshell late last year that she would be putting her music career on hold to pursue fashion we have been all ears. Now we can reveal that the popstrel will be unveiling her new clothing label, Lucy in Disguise, at the Vintage at Goodwood music-meets-glam-fashion festival (I die!) from August 13 - 15. Founded by designer Wayne Hemingway, the 3-day event will be the first to focus on dressing up and music.

Shop Shrimpton Couture for fabulous high-end vintage

shrimpton_couture.jpg

Imagine a vintage store with a collection so beautiful edited that you find yourself wanting every single piece (even the stuff from the 80s). Now rejoice that it actually exists.

In my imaginary fashion dream world I have the body of Christina Hendricks and the bank balance to allow me to buy almost exclusively from Shrimpton Couture. In reality, I can only start saving and hope that in a few months time the 1950s hobble dress in my size is still in stock. Selling everything from exquisite 30s couture to more modern classics like Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dresses (original 70s ones, not modern alternatives), this is high-end vintage at its best, and definitely worth a look if you're a bit of a fashion historian. They also have a great blog that shows just how well they know their subject!

Back in Style Vintage - designer and discount vintage shopping

backinstyle_vintage.jpg

I literally lost my entire morning to Back-In-Style.com. If you're a fan of vintage fashion or designer pieces, this website is your mecca. Stocking everything from 1960s cocktail dresses to original Herve Leger, with prices going from $10 to well into the hundreds (for vintage Pucci and Oscar de la Renta) there's something for everyone and it's a well-edited collection with plenty of styles and sizes on offer. Shown above are vintage finds from Lanvin, Lillie Rubin and Catherine Malandrino. I'm not going to link directly to them, half the fun is in the search!

Queens of Vintage launches - the perfect site for fans of vintage shopping & retro style

queensofvintage.jpg

Vintage fans rejoice! The newly-launched Queens of Vintage is a fabulous resource for fans of looks from the last 100 years. I love their 'Top 100 Queens' feature, where each day a new vintage-loving lady is showcased and celebrated. There's also a great 'Make & Mend' section full of tips for customising vintage clothing or making stuff from old patterns - something that'll definitely come in handy for me! There are also interviews with vintage experts, beauty tips and even historical info. Definitely worth bookmarking if you love anything old-fashioned!

One of a Kind at Net a Porter brings you vintage with a designer price tag

oneofakind_nap.jpg

As if Net a Porter didn't have enough of the market wrapped up with their amazing roster of designers (Nina Ricci by Olivier Theyskiens, anyone?) they're now dipping their toes into the vintage market by stocking pieces from One. That's 'One of a Kind' to you and me, a label that takes beautiful old pieces and restores them for modern shoppers. We're talking beaded 20s flapper dresses, tulle and lace 30s dancing dresses and delicate gold cocktails frocks. Unfortunately, not only are they one-offs, but most of them retail at more than £1,000 a pop. So look, but don't touch!

CQ Watch: How to wear a corset

If the burlesque revival has left you itching to try a full-on steel boned corset, this video from London vintage lingerie brand What Katie Did will give you an idea of the work that goes into actually putting it on. I think the results are more than worth the effort, but it's hard to believe women did this every day a hundred years ago.
