Forget all the other trends that made the rounds on the Oscar red carpet, my favourite was bows. Of course, regular CQ readers will remember Kim pointing out their permanent residence a while ago. However, Nicole Kidman's bow dramatically tied at the neck, Rachel Weisz's pretty bejewelled bust and Anne Hathaway going all out (literally) with a huge bow on her Valentino gown and on her wrist in the shape of Van Cleef & Arpels bangle, just showed how differently they can be worn. Check out these lovelies for high street alternatives. See under the cut for the credits.

There is such a thing as too much information there Dame Helen Mirren! It seems that she talking to Oprah Winfrey about her customise Christian Lacroix gown and said "It was all made for me so I didn't have to have any underwear."
Grasping her breasts to illustrate her point, she added: "It fitted me like two angel's hands. I cried when I put it on, it is a work of art."
We loved her dress, and the fact that she may even have tea with the real Queen Elizabeth, but we don’t need to know whether she had her knickers on or not.

Dear Alice Evans,
Oh, Alice, where do I begin? I love you, I really do. I adore that little column you write for Glamour where you refer to your boyfriend all the time but rarely name him, even though we all know you're all happily loved up with Mr Fantastic. I love that whoever wrote the Wikipedia entry on you obviously hates your guts. And I love that you wear lots of pretty vintage dresses.
However, this is not a pretty vintage dress, Alice. It's like the '60s, '70s and '80s all got together to vomit all over you. And don't even get me started on the boots. And as for Ioan, how he let you out the house looking like that I have no idea. Shame on you. BOTH of you!

Now the Oscars are over, it's time for us to do our final round-up of the best (and worst) frocks on the red carpet. Though there were no serious fashion faux-pas this year, there were a few strange gowns, some very unflattering shapes and some odd colour choices. Here's what team CQ thought were the ten best dresses (for various reasons). All images are clickable if you want to see bigger versions.
Best Dressed

1. Reese Witherspoon in Nina Ricci
Reese barely ever gets it wrong, and ex-Rochas designer Olivier Theyskens (now at Nina Ricci) is definitely serving her well at the moment. The dress is classic without being too boring, and I felt very proud to see Reese turning up in one of my predicted colours, especially as it suits her so well. She shows that tiered dresses don't have to turn you into a toilet-roll cover, and works the long, straight and simple hairstyle much better than some of her over-ironed rivals.
See who else we loved over the cut...

Whilst Gemma and Kim curled up in their jammies watching all the red carpet action (undoubtedly with booze and chocolate in tow) I sat at my boyfriend's house. He doesn't have Sky, so I was stuck watching him play Grand Theft Auto. For. The. Hundreth. Time.
But am I jealous? Noooo. Instead, I fiddled around on the internet and discovered that on Yahoo, you can create your own Oscars Avatar. Complete with a choice of celebrity inspired outfits, paparazzi backgrounds and even an Awards show interviewer, it's L.A. in your bedroom...and you're the star.

With stylish stars like Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Anne Hathaway sporting some serious bling on their fingers at this year's Oscar awards, is it time we follow suit? Ok so we can’t afford the kind of bling those stars wore – goodness knows most of it would have been on loan from various jewellery houses. Well ASOS can have you covered.

We've seen all the dresses, now let's take a closer look at each part of the stunning gowns. Up fifth is Kirsten Dunst in a Chanel Haute Couture dress.
Kirsten always does something different on the red carpet, a little unpredictable, she usually sticks to the vintage-y dresses that hark back to the 1920s, 1930s, or 1940s for the red carpet walks. At the 2007 Oscars it was no different. Kirsten picked light blue tulle embroidered dress from the
Chanel S/S 2007 Haute Couture Collection. With a hemline too long for the 1920s, but with enough feather trim that it could almost make a feather boa. The peter pan neckline was a sheer lace with sequins embellishing the fitted by not figure hugging dress down to the knees.
I’m not sure about the hair or makeup, but the dress and silver bangle made a beautiful combo.
