Slipping through the backstage door was Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer. Jen presented the award for Best Animated Film and Best Animated Short Film alongside Jack Black. Dressed in a similar style dress to Anne Hathaway, Jennifer sparkled in a strapless silver Valentino Haute Couture gown and Fred Leighton jewels. The less that is said about her hair the better, but overall it was a classic look for the actress.

We have seen a plethora of mermaid-style gowns on the Oscars red carpet, and leading the pack was Beyonce. Wearing one of her mum's designs, the diva worked her bootylicious curves in this black and gold strapless dress by House of Dereon. I can't say that I'm hugely enthused by this look, but kudos to Beyonce for not overdoing it with lots of bling and ostentatious jewels.
P.S. I *hearted* your dance number with Hugh!

Posted by ShinyStyle's Andrea... I love when actresses dress for formal occasions to show off their tattoos, so think this shot of the back of Evan Rachel Wood's dress is pretty rock and roll. But, the dress itself was a bit tame, if beautiful. Not a lot of risks on tonight's red carpet! Wood is wearing Elie Saab, with Stuart Weitzman shoes, a Sergio Rossi bag and Neil Lane jewellery. She also told Ryan Seacrest she was wearing Benefit perfume, teehee.

Someone said after one of the previous awards shows that she is going to regret wearing so much makeup when she was young, because it really ages her, and I think that rang true tonight as well. Just because your boyfriend wears a ton of makeup doesn't mean you have to, honey.

I really, really hope this is the beginning of seeing more Rodarte on the red carpet. And an auspicious start it was. Natalie Portman was perfectly appropriate for a presenter's role - fashionable without being overdone. Ever the vegan, she also wore Stella McCartney shoes (always animal friendly), a vintage Rialto clutch and Kwiat jewellery. She stood out in what I think was the only pink dress on the carpet, but kept things simple and classic. And of course was hilarious with Ben Stiller on stage.

Opting for this season's favourite style - the one-shouldered dress - was Marisa Tomei. Designed by Versace Atelier the soft grey satin and organza gown worked a treat on The Wrestler actress, who admitted that the film "was a difficult movie to make." She matched her look with a pair of satin open-toed heels and bling from Van Cleef & Arpels.

Despite some average red carpet appearances lately, Anne Hathaway glimmered in a strapless cream gown from Armani Prive's S/S 2009 collection. The Oscar nominee not only gets our thumbs up for this look, but also for her singing/dancing opening number with Hugh Jackman. Economy woes weren't a factor here, Anne traipsed out in more than one million dollars worth of Cartier jewels. Yes, really.
