We're more than halfway through summer, and the end is looming closer and closer... you know what that means? Swimsuit sales, even though theres still plenty of sunshine and poolside time! The last couple of years have been filled with the oh-so-popular 'o ring' detail abounding on bandeau and halter tops, and this year, the hugely popular string-bikinis have been replaced by bottoms with glam side details. The Crystal Graphite Anika Brazil bikini has 'em both, and they're on sale for US$42.30 and US$57.40, respectively. Also all over the place this year was the belted bottom paired with a halter top, a killer utilitarian yet sexy look a la Bond Girl style. The white Cote D Azur by Asha Couture pieces are on sale for US$107.25 and US$95.
While Jessica Simpson's debut swimwear collection may have closed Miami Swim 2008, I just had to do one last post about Miami Swim, on Australian swimwear label Zimmermann. Designing sisters, Nicole and Simone Zimmermann wanted to bring “the cool Bondi girl to Miami”, and did it with ease with the sunkissed models and brightly coloured bikini’s you would often see on the beaches of Bondi. With their collection full 60s and 70s style silhouettes in bright fun colours, it was obvious that they stuck to what they’re best at – clever cuts and bold prints.
Jessica Simpson set the scene for her Miami Swim 2008 fashion show by opening with a bikini that appeared to have been inspired by the mini shorts she wore as Daisy Duke in the Dukes of Hazzard. The show was filled with lighthearted pieces as the pop star sat in the front row watching her pieces strut down the catwalk. The summer 2008 collection was sexy and fun, with bright colours, stripes, polka dots and bright floral prints. According to the press releases there was three distinct styles: All American Girl, Boho Girl, and Retro Hawaiian girl.
True Religion swim wear? But aren’t they a premium denim brand? Not anymore. True Religion signed a licensing agreement with InGear Swimwear and then launched their line of swim wear for woman, men, boys and girls yesterday as part of Miami Swim fashion week 2008. This was one swim wear collection that is perfect for the beatnik beach babes. It featured a lot of vintage-inspired prints, bold hippie florals, intricate paisleys, crocheted patterns, ombre and beaded swimsuits in a bright colors. Ideal for a girl who loves to have fun in the sun, and not a bad collection for a denim brands first foray into swim wear.
The colours were bright, the prints were fun and the accessories were bright. I didn’t know what to expect of the Lycra swimwear summer 2008 collection in Miami, but I was pleasantly surprised.
The show kicked off with models of all shapes and colours modeling Lyrca’s basic swimsuits. There was a variety of one piece suits, to enhance an hour glass figure, to jazz up a real woman’s body shape, and cute little bandeau’s. The colours were fun because there was so many pretty prints in Hawaiian florals and abstract shapes.
Badgley Mischka are known for their gorgeous embellished gowns that the likes of Sharon Stone and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have modeled. Now after making their mark in the ready-to-wear world, Mark Badgley and James Mischka are taking on the world of swim wear, launching their debut season of Badgley Mischka Swim at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim Show yesterday.
And like regular fabrics, they did a great job with spandex. The swimsuits were 100% wearable and embellished with gold decoration or beaded detailing. The finishing touches fitted their design aesthetics, with necklines either in a flattering (but not plunging) V, or sweetheart shape.
