Martin Margiela officially exits; Diesel won't replace him

maisonmartinmargiela_ss2010.jpgIt has been on the cards for some time, but now we have official confirmation that Martin Margiela has exited the label he founded 20 years ago, Maison Martin Margiela.

Giovanni Pungetti, chief executive of MMM, said Margiela has quietly left the label and will not be replaced. Pungetti also rejected claims that Margiela left due to a falling out with the new management, Renzo Rosso of Diesel. It seems he simply wished to retire without being put under the spotlight.

"It would have been very simple to hire someone else, and we evaluated that option, but in the end, what is important is the taste of designer," he said.

Christian Lacroix loses buyer; becomes licensing operator

Sadly Christian Lacroix has been hit with yet another blow after failing to find a buyer. The Paris Court of Commerce approved a plan to reduce the troubled label to a licensing operation, thereby cutting its workforce from 100 to around a dozen employees.

The decision will also put an end to the designer's ready-to-wear and haute couture lines, as well as its retail operators (sob!) Following the hearing Nicolas Topiol, Lacroix's CEO, said he would continue to negotiate a sale with prospective buyers and find a way to restart the RTW and couture businesses under license.

"I am working on finding a solution for the company. Everything is still possible," he maintained. While chairman of Bernard Krief, Louis Petiet, added: "Christian Lacroix is a fantastic brand. It's frightening to think the haute couture and ready-to-wear could be shut down." Agreed!

Zac Posen joins Target's Go International brand

zacposen_event_victoriasecret.jpgJoining a growing list of fashion's big names is Zac Posen, who has been revealed as Target's next guest designer. Posen will create a range for Target's Go International division (not to be confused with its Designer Collaborations brand). His range will hit stores in the US and online from 25th April.

Of course, Zac is no stranger to working with the retailer. He collaborated with Target Australia on a range of party dresses, which he unveiled at the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival in March last year.

Leading the European pack, Jean Paul Gaultier was also recently announced as Target's latest Designer Collaborations talent. He will launch his collection on 7th March. Two more reasons to move to America.
