Still hunting for the perfect party dress to wear this festive season? Then you may want to take a glance at Roland Mouret's limited edition dress collection for Net-a-porter.com. Aptly named, the 'Rainbow Project', the collection features an array of party frocks in a burst of different colours. Subtle glamour is the key - and not a little black dress in sight! But be warned, prices aren't cheap. Ranging from £850 and £1700, what else can you expect when two of the pieces (a cream and a navy dress) starred in Mouret's spring/summer 2010 show in Paris.
It is possible that I've fallen under some kind of rock lately. There can be no other reason why I almost overlooked such an amazing opportunity to own a piece of fashion genius. Maison Martin Margiela has opened up his incredible archives to the public thanks to a collaboration with Yoox.com. There are 100 one-off items for sale online, that span Margiela's collections from 2005 to 2009. They include some of his most experimental and unique pieces such as the infamous wig jacket (£5,303) which took a staggering 51 hours to create!
Slightly reminiscent of Kylie's lame hot pants in her Spinning Around video (which I swore I would never attempt), these Anna Sui sequin shorts might have me changing my tune after I spotted them in Net-a-Porter's new lineup this week. They made me rivert back to this silver sequin skirt I saw on Knight Cat and think how they'd be just as perfect with flat ankle boots, a vest top and mussed-up hair at a rock gig as with black opaques and a sleek blazer (as styled above) for a swish evening out.
How about you? What do you think of them? And more importantly: would you wear them!?
I'm having a really hard time deciding between two of my favourite dresses for the season, and so now I put it to you to help me figure out which one to blow my money on first (because, let's face it, I won't be able to help myself and will buckle in a week or so and splurge on the second one too!)
I adore the girlish charm of the pink Alice McCall and love how it has been styled here with platform ankle boots and a beret. But the tie-dye/sequin dress would go perfectly with my Black Rats leggings and some chunky bandals (a boot-slash-sandal and the new shoe of the season don't ya know?)
After all the hype surrounding Kate Moss and Mario Sorrenti's Purple cover, it's no surprise this week's Designer Pick of the Week comes from the designer responsible for Kate's zip and lace asymmetric dress.
This Balmain number is a slightly more subdued, easy to wear version, with less drama and a little more coverage, featuring just one mesh insert instead of the dozens on Kate's frock.
Sadly, it might be a while before you're able to get your hands on this little number unless you plan robbing a bank in the near future. Kate Moss glamour comes at a price. £7,970 to be exact. Ouch! Perhaps we'll just admire it from afar.
Seeing a new shipment in at Net-a-Porter never fails to have me quickly perking up on a grey afternoon (and start making those dream wishlists of course!) So here's just a few of my picks of the batch - a basic yet chic outfit for work, weekend or even a dinner date. Check out product details after the jump and then make sure you take a look at the rest of the new arrivals for hot dresses, thigh-skimming boots and Halston bags.
It's not really feeling much like summer at the moment. And bummer - it's also not quite autumn yet. So any pieces that can tide you over in the meantime and be worn a multitude of ways, are both welcomed and revered. This skirted merino sweater from Manoush (£190), although not cheap, is one of those pieces where the pricetag doesn't matter so much since it's just bursting with possibilties...
Wear unbuttoned over a white tank and denim cutoffs for a lazy summer day look, or try pairing with black leggings and wedges for those summer days when the sun is tucked behind the clouds. Wear over the top of a bodycon dress for that double-skirted look we're seeing a lot lately or layer a polo neck jumper underneath, and add black skinny jeans and ankle boots for when it really does cool down.
