Plaid is such a big story for this autumn and as Gemma showed you today you don't have to be an Amy Winehouse indie kid or Alice Dellal punk-grunger to wear it.
Toast's plaid dress is so simple and easy to wear and the variety of colours makes it cut above your ubiquitous high street check. Teamed with grey tights and purple lace ups it gives a sweet, bookish look. A leather satchel and beetle cuff carry on the library-chic and a contrasting bow finishes the off the look. Tartan and checked items don't automatically mean you have to go punk. A lot of the stuff that's emerging this season is much smarter and more feminine than the mini kilts and skinny trousers you might be used to. River Island's cute little cinch-waist jacket caught my eye for its vintage charm, but I wanted to do something a little bit unexpected...for once there's not a pencil skirt in sight!

What to wear this time of year? The sky is grey but it's deceptively hot, skirts and opaques just wont cut it and summer dresses feel too floaty.
Rolled up chinos is where it's at, the shorter length and baggy cut is perfect for the muggy climate and teamed with heeled lace-ups they look très stylish. An OTT diamanté brooch brings out the best in a simple lavender grey t-shirt and subtly sparkly studs keep up the glitz factor. Top off the whole outfit with Debenhams' dark purple bag to tie all the colours together and give a little polish to the look. Full product links after the jump.

It must be because London Fashion Week is looming because I am not in the mood for dressing up. Ohne Titel's oversized cardigan is just the thing I want and teamed with some colourful jeans makes a stylish but comfy outfit. It might be matchy matchy but I can't resist adding these orange patent flats into the mix. A purple top adds to the colour co-ordinated look and a grey purse finishes the whole look off.

Dressing up is fun, that's probably why most of you are here, but dressing down can be fun too. The bright colours of the zips on the Topshop bag make it a great casual bag and teamed with skinny jeans you've got a look that's easy to wear and stylish. Adding a large, print tee and some hi-tops carries on the quirky casual theme. An unbelievably cool gold retainer necklace and some funny Lazy Oaf badges give it more of an out-there feel and inject a little humour. See after the jump for full product links.

Mimco are an Australian brand who aren't coming to the UK till this September but I couldn't resist using their deliciously tough shoe boots in this outfit. Keeping with the sombre theme is a poufy plum bag and a dark panelled dress. A pretty ring and a silver knot necklace add some chic, while the men's watch keeps the tough vibe. Old time chic just oozes from these Toast Oxford bags, the slouchy mannish shape is spot on. The tee is a feminine touch but keeps the slouchy, relaxed vibe and the Toy watch makes the look pop with its flash of white. The bag stays within the muted palette and the gold shoes give a bit of glitz. See full product details after the jump.
