Christmas parties don't have to mean OTT glitz, of course a bit of rhinestone and lamé are always welcome, but if you want to play it chic and subtle then this outfit is the way to go.
The Cheap Monday skirt is perfect for those who want to dip their toes into the wet-look trend without going the whole hog and teamed with the lace tights provides some texture. Deep purple feathers add to the mix of textures and a simple lace panelled grey jumper provides a neutral backdrop for the whole outfit. An '80s style watch stops the outfit for looking too cutesy and ankle boots provide a little lift without hurting dancing feet.

Why not go for all out glam this Christmas season in sequinned leggings and the brightest platforms around? Les Chiffoniers sequinned leggings add the spark that sets fire to this smoking party outfit. A taupe dress pretends to act all coy, but the ruffles give away the attention seeker inside. Top it off with the pen nib brooch, to show that even with all that flamboyance you're still a serious girl at heart... Honest!

Christmas is such an OTT occasion it seems pointless to dress normally, so every year I take on the spirit of Eastenders. It's a bit '80s, a bit glam and if there's any family drama then by jove you're dressed for the occasion!
Anita Dobson, who played Angie Watts in the soap is perfect inspiration. Her bouffant hair, showy make-up and volatile temper all scream yuletide so follow in her footsteps with a fluffy angora jumper and glitzy earrings. High waisted jeans carry on the hot mum look, and a pair of snakeskin heels give off a 'don't mess with me' vibe. See after the jump for the outfit.

A lot of Christmas parties aren't an all-out glam fest so minidresses and hair extensions are better left at home. Choose an outfit which looks like you've made an effort, but haven't gone to town.
A pretty fan detail floaty top is tempered by the acid wash jeans and a dose of dressy is added with the shoes. I've teamed it with a studded clutch and a grey knit biker jacket to carry on the contrast between tough and girly. A orange gemstone ring adds a splash of colour, which you could try mirroring with your make up or nail varnish.

Shimmer and knit are a recurring outfit favourite of mine and you don't have to fork out loads to get the look. The dark purple trousers look less disco teamed with a grey jumper and the chunky pull on knit. Patent shoes and a mohair hat add more textures and Alice McCall's brilliantly named 'Rip Her To Shreds' bag tops off the ensemble.

Kiki's Delivery Service is one of my favourite films to watch on a dreary afternoon, it tells the tale of a plucky young girl who leaves her hometown to serve a sort of self-directed apprenticeship so she can become a fully-fledged witch.
Kiki sports a large bow which is a big trend at the moment, so in her honour I compiled a Kiki-worthy outfit. Orange flats and a navy puff-sleeved dress provide the backdrop for a sensational oversized bow. Kiki also carries around a brown satchel, and as you can't take a cat out with you I've included a cat brooch to top off the look.

Christophe Decarnin's modern, gritty reinvention of the classic French label Balmain has fashionistas in raptures, and the high street has been taking notice. Miss Selfridge have bought us a pretty good interpretation of the one-shoulder dress Lily Donaldson strutted down the runway in for Autumn / Winter, swapping silver for black to avoid the copycat claims. I've teamed it with shoes and a bangle that continue the tough, punky look of the collection with studs and rivets, and a silly clutch and quirky earrings to show a sense of humour (you should never take fashion too seriously)...
