New York's recent Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala drew the usual celeb-heavy crowd of actresses, musicians, designers and models in an array of colourful couture. But it seems not everyone liked what they saw.
Valentino recently caught up with the Guardian to reveal what he really thought:
"I think now all the girls look very ugly," says Valentino - not talking about women in general but those glamorous enough to wear couture. "I saw the pictures of the Metropolitan gala evening [in New York] last week and I never saw something more ugly, all the girls have their legs out with the most terrible proportions." He shakes his head and mutters "no, no, no", wiggling his finger like a disappointed schoolmaster.
So much for Marc Jacobs's desire to see his guests in shorter dresses... Crikey!
Amongst the sea of models at Monday night's Met Costume Institute Gala, one very famous face was missing... Naomi Campbell.
Why? Well, it seems Azzedine Alaïa is the reason.
According to reports, Alaïa was so displeased that Anna Wintour only allowed one photograph of his work to be displayed at the exhibition, he asked several supermodels including Naomi, Linda Evangelista and Stephanie Seymour, who were supposed to wear his designs to the gala, not to. This prompted all three models to pull out of attending all together.
"As Naomi has been the muse of Azzedine Alaïa for 23 years, she feels she doesn't want to attend unless she can represent his work," a spokesperson for Campbell said.
I call this the Stella McCartney Quartet! Four lovely ladies all oozing chicness and red carpet glamour - they have to be in Stella's crew, natch! Starting from the left, Liv Tyler sparkled in a blue gown, Kate Hudson shimmered in a gold halterneck dress, the lady herself was flawless in a black lace jumpsuit (woot!) and Kate Bosworth vamped it up in a black full-length dress with sheer panelling. The only question is - whose outfit do you fancy the most? Vote below.
Joining his fellow co-chairs was Justin Timberlake, who seems to have developed a vision deficiency overnight. Nice specs mate! JT and his red hot girlfriend, Jessica Biel had the camera bulbs flashing as they arrived at the MET. However, I'm not 100% sold on Jess's choice of gown. The red shiny Atelier Versace gown is a little too cabaret on the young actress, and not only clashes with the red carpet but also with her fake tan in some photos. It's another one for the train fan club though!
With Karl Lagerfeld absent, Diane Kruger once again flew the flag for Chanel last night. Dressed in a demure white floral appliqué minidress, the actress was her usual cute self next to boyfriend, Joshua Jackson. *Drool* what a manbag to carry! The jury is still out on her black accessories and shoes though, however it was a night for showing off the pins and Diane did this with aplomb.
It was ruffles all the way for Heidi Klum, who was one of the first to arrive at the MET Costume Institute Gala. The pregnant model wore a dramatic navy taffeta and sheer gown designed by J.Mendel. Loads of layers of fabric were used to hide Heidi's baby bump, the question is - why? Especially since the cat is already out of the bag. The host of Project Runway also sported one of the night's biggest trend - a train. See how many more stars you can spot this look one!
Here is one Gossip Girl that appears to have grown-up overnight. Blake Lively, accompanied by her boyfriend Penn Badgley, steamed up the red carpet. Taking a leaf out of Cindy Crawford's book, Blake chose this blue chiffon Versace gown, featuring one-shoulder neckline and a thigh-high split. I love the simple pulled back hair, smoky make-up and subtle all-over glow. Sexy but not overtly so.
