Vogue Italia pays homage to Barbie for "Black Issue"

vogueitalia_blackissue_barbie1.jpg

Vogue Italia has recreated its ground-breaking July '08 "Black Issue," only this time using Barbie as its main inspiration. The first black doll created from Barbie, named Francie, was introduced in 1967. The actual first black Barbie wasn't released until 1980. This year, the iconic doll has celebrated her 50th anniversary all over the world, and now a collection of black Barbies, called So In Style dolls, are slated to launch early next year. "Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to Black Barbie," said editor-in-chief, Franca Sozzani.

Two Isabella Blow biographies due out in 2010

isabellablow_portrait_stevenmeisel.jpgThe late great Isabella Blow is about to be remembered via two biographies due out next year.

She is the subject of two separate books, the first Blow by Blow: The Story of Isabella Blow, is co-written by her husband, Detmar Blow and British author Tom Sykes. Sykes was first introduced to Blow through his sister, Plum, while she worked as an assistant at Vogue.

The second, slated for December 2010, is penned by Karyn Marcus and commissioned by fashion writer, Laura Goldstein Crowe.

stylist_freewomensmag_logo.jpg

Your morning commute into work is about to get a whole lot more appealing thanks to a new women's magazine about to hit our streets. And the best bit? It's free! Named Stylist, it is a free weekly mag, produced by Shortlist Media (the same publishers who founded the free men's magazine, ShortList) and is slated to launch in October.

With eight months in the planning, Stylist is rumoured to be helmed by Lisa Smosarski, who recently stepped down as editor at More! and is backed by French Connection founder Stephen Marksis. It will target "affluent professional women" aged 20 to 40-years-old.

Cover watch: Sasha Pivavorova for Vogue UK; Lily Allen for i-D, August '09 issues

Two covers to catch my interest today are from British Vogue and i-D. After Julianne Moore's July '09 cover, Vogue have gone back to using a model - this time it is Sasha Pivavorova. Photographed by Patrick Demarchelier, Sasha features in a special 'London, Paris, Milan, New York' photo-shoot inside.

Cameron Diaz gets a little Gwen and Lady Gaga gets nude for V magazine

camerondiaz_ladygaga_vmagazine.jpg

It is another nod to Madonna, with a hint of Gwen Stefani in this latest cover for V magazine, starring Cameron Diaz. The actress steps out of comfort-zone for an edgy photo-shoot taken by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Reminiscent of Madge's iconic True Blue phase, Cam experiments with short peroxide hair, fake tattoos and cone bra fashioned out of gaffer tape.

Meanwhile, another Madonna disciple, Lady Gaga, also features in the issue sans clothes all together. Click on to see more photos of both ladies...

Daria Werbowy: "I can't analyse my appeal. If I did I'd be in a straitjacket"

dariawerbowy_interview_telegraph.jpgDaria Werbowy, someone we are so familiar with seeing in fashion but whom we know very little, recently sat down to chat with the Telegraph.

With an estimated earnings of £2.3million last year, ranking her at ninth on Forbes's annual list, Daria seems at a lost to explain why.

"I can't analyse my appeal. If I did I'd be in a straitjacket," she said. "I sometimes find myself staring at it [gesturing at a picture of herself] because I don't really know who that girl is. I guess a lot of people don't realise, but I'm always playing a character when I'm working. When you're always having people's images projected on you, who "Daria" is as a person sort of disappears."

Emma Watson bags another cover with Elle UK, August '09 issue (incl. video!)

emmawatson_elleukmag_aug09.jpg

The covers just keep on rolling in for Emma Watson. Here she is for British Elle's August '09 issue, sporting an entirely different look to her recent Teen Vogue cover. According to stylists, they wanted her to look "tough but young", with an obvious overkill of eye liner. While it's refreshing to see the Harry Potter icon showing off a more grown-up, edgy side, the jury is still out for me on this particular shoot. How about you?

Click on to see a special behind-the-scenes video...
