emmacook_topshop_nameknits.jpg

Can you believe we are up to the sixth collection from Emma Cook for Topshop? And it's a real name dropper too! Including a range of knitted jumpers and cardigans, the designer has featured some of her classic '80s names of her friends. Emma took inspiration from a 1950s photograph of a teenager wearing a jumper with a boys names on it. Can you find your name?

Miss Selfridge intricate knit jumper

miss selfridge jumper.jpg

Intricate, cobwebby knits are great for layering and mean you can wear a colour you wouldn't normally dare too and have it shyly peeking through. Designers like Rodarte and Mark Fast have both used cobwebby and distressed knits to great effect in their catwalk collections.

Miss Selfridge's jumper (£35) is the perfect weight for transitional dressing and will look great worn over leggings. Try wearing it over a printed bodycon dress, pair of thick patterned tights and boots when the weather cools down.

What to wear over those strapless party dresses

coverup_shrugs_boleros.jpg

The response to yesterday's Helen Mirren story about dresses with sleeves got me thinking about the proliferation of strapless and strappy dresses at this time of year, and the ongoing problem of what to wear with them to keep off the chill. Assuming you wear a coat to go in, you'll then need something a bit thinner and more party-like to wear after you've removed it.

While some super-stylish people can make a loose, men's cardigan look amazing over a strapless prom dress, others will need something a bit more appropriate. Luckily there are plenty of shrugs, boleros, capes and cardigans around...

Wrap up warm in Bora Aksu's (ethical) cape cardigan

boraksucape.jpgThey're predicting the temperature will drop below zero this week, which means I'm busy looking at stylish ways to wrap up warm.

Bora Aksu definitely deliver with this gorgeous cape cardigan, which they designed for ethical fashion brand People Tree. I think this is a brilliant alternative to wrapping a scarf around your neck in the office all Winter (oh, go on, you know you do it) and it would also look great layered up with jersey pieces (or even a floral dress left over from Summer) and chunky wool tights for a look straight off the London catwalk.

In black or grape, the cardigan is £85 at People Tree.

Retro jumper from Rokit

Every so often a vintage piece takes your breath away (sequinned handprint tunic anyone?!) and this University jumper by Rokit is one of those special pieces.

The £85 price is fairly reasonable for a genuine '40s item in such good condition, from the collegiate badges you can tell the original owner was a dab hand at badminton and tennis. The jumper would look great teamed with jeans and loafers for a casual yet on-trend outfit. Preppy is back with people like Andre Benjamin's Benjamin Bixby collection and this is the perfect way to get the authentic look.

Short-sleeve cardies from Topshop, Oasis and YMC

Short-sleeved cardigans are a little pointless but I love them anyway. They're great for this time of year when it's neither cold nor warm so you can slip them on and off with ease. The chunky red knit will look great as part of a retro-inspired outfit while the cobalt blue cardigan is perfect for layering. If you want to go a step further try combining a scarf and cardigan all in one! Full product details after the jump.

Lutz + Patmos enlist Jane Birkin as guest designer

janebirkin_lutzpatmos.jpgLutz + Patmos, the clothing company that brought us collaborations from Kirsten Dunst, Carine Roitfeld and Liv Tyler, is about to hit us with another guest designer range in the form of Jane Birkin.

That's right, the English-born actress and humanitarian has been lined up by the cashmere label to launch a capsule collection of luxe sweaters.

"She has this really relaxed, nonchalant style without being overtly sexy, which is very sexy," Tina Lutz said.

Her designs are set to be unveiled during New York Fashion Week next month.
