Peacocks have apparently invested £1.5 million in an attempt to cash in on the blazer trend. Like the military jacket of a few seasons ago - which Primark had in all manner of shapes and sizes - this is a wearable look that's perfect for this time of year. The key is to go for a style that looks a bit too small, fastening only the top two (brass) buttons. Then add a tatty looking scarf, beige trousers and a white top or rock tee and you're done. Started almost singlehandedly by Balenciaga, the look is easy to pull off, surprisingly flattering and now dirt cheap. The original Ghesquiere-designed jacket costs upwards of £1000, but with Peacocks stacking the shelves with styles starting at £16 we can all emulate this now. Shame none of them are available online at the mo...

Every winter I’m on the look out for new black coats that are classic but with a twist, and I love this Ted Baker Viv jacket. It could be my winter coat of choice with military stylings popular this season thanks to Balenciaga’s fall 2007/08 collections. I love the siuff collar, how the buttons fastening to one side, the box pleating and turned up cuffs at the sleeves. Whether you wear it over something fancy, or just too and from work, the Ted Baker Viv jacket is a great jacket to take you through a few winters yet.
Dolce and Gabbana's yellow coat (£1,305) is just the thing brighten up a grey rainy day, and give you a reason to get out of the house when it's miserable. The classic trench shape is very flattering which is what you want to go for when you're going for a kooky colour. It's made form lacquered cotton which is sheeny shiny and totally waterproof, which should get you in the mood to go splashing in puddles in no time. With a tie-front waist to nip you in and a drop-shaped neck tabs this coat is so jaunty there's no excuse for a glum face this winter!
Topshop have just launched their mid-season sale (seems a little early doesn't it?) and in the sale are a few pieces from the latest Kate Moss for Topshop range. There is the (frankly disgusting)
maxi length wetlook dress which even made Ms. Moss look like she was wearing a bin liner, the button detail hotpants (which I'm bagging for myself as we speak) and the
cropped biker jacket that ever fashion editor declared a '
must have'. It was £150 and is now just £80!
We had one of the jackets in the office and it was really nice, good soft leather and a nice fit.

Cold weather is seeping in, even in California, and that means its way past time to look for new outerwear. I'm heavily considering this cute Juicy bomber in either white or black, even though I normally shy away from poofy jackets. For some reason, this one looks extremely feminine to me (it might just be the model in it) and I really like the dangling pull-tabs at either side of the buttons. Additionally, that downward diagonal seaming has a bit of a slimming effect. Lastly, I think the elastic bomber-style ribbed hem will help keep the jacket from looking too large. US$348, though, and that is quite a bit more than I want to spend on a poofy jacket!

Leather is very big news at the moment and while leather dresses and skirts are all the rage a jacket is infinitely more wearable and they look great with this season's tough look. Team with a pencil skirt and chiffon scarf for easy chic that doesn't look to try-hard or with a pair of jeans for a classy weekend outfit. ASOS' version is a mere £65, which is good going for a real leather jacket. Dorothy Perkin's mink colour jacket (£120) is an interesting cut that will give a bit of edge to your outfits. See after the jump for the other three jackets.

Remember when your mum used to tell you to buy a nice 'sensible coat' for the colder months? It's only now that I've managed to shrug off the idea that clothes require some sensible thought (well, sometimes they might). Thankfully there's a lot of fashion forward items on our shop rails that might just turn out to have a healthy dollop of sensibility too.
I've picked a few fab coats that are not only useful for keeping you warm and dry this season, but they're also the sort of pieces that will turn heads. In wonderfully daring colours, these transform the usually loathed item that covers up your outfit into a key piece. My favourite is the patent mac from Topshop (left), which makes the perfect rain coat and also looks effortlessly cute and unique. Which do you prefer? Read over for details of how to buy it.
