Autumn / Winter preview: French Connection bomber jacket

French_Connection_AW_.jpg

If there's one thing I will be buying this autumn (which I can hardly believe I don't already own), it will be a black leather biker or bomber jacket like this one from French Connection. At first glance, the asymmetrical zip and collar might feel like it's been 'done' many-a-time over, but look harder and the cropped sleeves and patent finish gives it a very '08/'09 feel.

I will be looking forward to channeling my inner Emmanuelle Alt, and pairing it with Parisian stripes and butt-kicking ankle boots for a true tough-cookie look. It is set to retail for £120.

Warehouse bring us gothic romance with their smocked Victoriana leather jacket

victorianaleatherjacket.jpgI'm forever going on about 'toughening up' outfits with a good leather jacket. I'm not usually a fan of 'mixing genres' (kudos if you can name that quote!) but I think this is a look that really works, especially considering the awful weather we're subjected to most of the time in the UK.

However, until recently I hadn't found the perfect leather jacket to do that with.

Step forward Warehouse, who've cleverly teamed romantic, Victorian detailing with the new season's gothic trend to bring us this smocked leather jacket for £130. I can just imagine it layered over something diaphanous in a creamy shade, finished with tough black patent shoeboots or studded sandals.

Jovonna's 'Gemma' fishtail trench. A namesake that's won me over!

jovonnagemma.jpgIt's not often you stumble across an item of clothing with the same name as you. It's even less often that you'll stumble across something with the same name as you that you actually like.

But that happened today, when I found London boutique line Jovonna's 'Gemma' fishtail trench coat (£79). it's got a really beautiful graduated pleat detail on the back that adds a bit of unique detailing to the classic trench shape. It's also single-breasted, so it can be worn open as well as buttoned and belted. Perfect, since the big problem I have with my beloved Gap trench is that it's double-breasted so difficult to throw on in a hurry!

The only problem with this one? Well, this Gemma won't be squeezing into one without a diet and a breast reduction. The so-called 'Large' is only a 12. Oh well, perhaps I'll have to settle for my namesake handbag instead?

Topshop are dotty about the boyfriend blazer

polkaboyfriendblazer.jpgTheir first boyfriend blazer sold out faster than you could say 'if Daisy has it, I want it too'. So now Topshop have upped the ante by bringing us a second version of the new season classic, a polka dot oversize jacket with a reverse dot trim for £65.

Though it would obviously work with block colour (electric blue would be fab) I imagine this worn in a very Brit 'It girl' way, topping a contrasting pattern like a checked Luella prom dress, or even as a way of wearing the current ditsy florals into a new season. The slouchy feel calls for something quite cool and edgy, so if you do invest, don't be afraid to clash.

Miss Selfridge are in the pink with a very red mac

lipstickmac.jpgI have a story involving a red mac. A colleague came into work wearing one once, promptly saw my teal green one and insisted we do a swap at lunchtime. When we left the office, she explained this was because she thought the red one (which I was now wearing) made her 'look like a hooker'.

Of course, I insisted in a quick swap back, though I secretly quite liked the red one. Perhaps that's why this Miss Selfridge number (which is actually 'lipstick pink') appealed. I love the cutesy frills and the cropped sleeved, and the fact it's single-breasted means it can be work open or belted. All yours for £60. join the queue...

All Saints go manly with their quirky tailored tailcoat

allsaintsjacket.jpgI'm first to admit I'm girly, and the outfits and items I choose for the site tend to veer towards the cutesy. Not so with this jacket from All Saints, which despite being the antithesis of what I usually go for, really called to me.

It takes masculine tailoring further than usual, with tails on the back that look like the top of a pair of suit trousers. The front represents the fly, which is the kind of detail you don't usually find on the high street.

Of course, All Saints is high-end high street and this jacket will set you back £185. Perhaps I'll wait for the sale.

Summer rainmac pick: French Connection, Lulu & Red and Louise Amstrup

summer rain mac french connection lulu red louise amstrup.jpgSummer rain isn't the same as winter rain, the fat heavy drops and stiff breezes can catch you unawares and before you know it your look is more drowned rat than summer hottie. I've picked three different lightweight macs to protect you from the elements, longer length macs are better for wearing with dresses, choose from tailored or go for something more casual with a print. A cropped mac is perfect for showers and the pussy bow adds chic. See after the jump for product details.
