Milan Fashion Week: D&G S/S 2009

The nautical theme (one of my all-time faves) rang loud and clear at Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana's diffusion show, D&G. Inspired by their ocean-dwelling summer in the South of France, where the duo entertained the likes of Naomi Campbell at Cannes Film Festival, this collection was all blue and gold like the beach. Anchor prints dominated the catwalk, as did stripes, high-waisted trousers, blazers, swim caps, and rose corsages. Cute, glam, and totally

Celebs including Katy Perry (below) and Kelly Rowland watched by the sidelines, but the question of everyone's lips was - where was Naomi? CLICK ON THE IMAGE BELOW TO BEGIN GALLERY.

Milan Fashion Week Gallery: Emporio Armani S/S 2009

From our US bloggers at ShinyStyle...

Well, fashion week has moved to Milan and so does our attention. Unfortunately, we've seen nothing to really perk our interest yet!

The Emporio Armani girl is very covered up for spring 2009 with lots of long sleeves and pants. Oddly, this is combined with a lot of resorty pieces and swimwear. In this respect and more, the collection seems a little lost. The pants continued the trend of volume at the hips and - gasp - pleats! There were also cropped and harem-style offerings. All this despite the worldwide shortage of women who can pull-off these styles. One pair featured a slouchy, wide-leg silhouette and we just wish more had followed this pattern. Many of the pants were paired with rather matronly, oddly-cut jackets. As for red carpet gowns we love Emporio Armani for, there was only one standout - a beautiful butterfly number.

Milan Fashion Week: C'N'C Costume National S/S 09

Forget ditching the black as soon as springtime hits. Based on what we saw at C'N'C Costume National, black could be lingering around a bit longer than you think. While black and grey are not the first hues you think about for spring/summer, the pieces here still looked fresh and light, thanks to the presence of ivory, white and flashes of pink. Not to mention the plethora of sheer fabric and the layering of floaty tops and tunics over leggings - funnily enough, you could actually picture these looks making it through a warm day.

Designer Ennio Capasa referenced X-ray specs for this collection, and indeed with some of these outfits you felt like you were being a bit creepy. However, I do love the idea of a basic white tee under a sheer black blouse or tunic (see below). While most of us might not be brave enough to try some of the other peek-a-boo looks, this is definitely one worth investigating further...

Milan Fashion Week: Moschino Cheap & Chic S/S 2009

Rosella Jardini was obviously in a good mood when she designed the latest Moschino Cheap & Chic collection. From butterfly emblazoned silk blouses to jumpsuits, mini trench coats to embroidered soft pink maxi dresses, everything was infused with a dash of Summery whimsy. Stand-out pieces included the flirty A-line dresses with bows at the neck, silk trousers with watercolour prints and a cowl necked halter dress with huge butterflies all over it. From London we head to Italy, where Roberto Cavalli opened Milan Fashion Week with his Just Cavalli spring/summer 2009 collection. Against a seascape backdrop, it was another unusual mix of leopard print, lace, leather and chiffon for the designer, but haven't we seen this all before?

Diet Coke gets another dressing, this time from Roberto Cavalli

dietcoke_robertocavallidesigns.jpg

Forget the rich and the famous, it's Diet Coke that has our designers chomping at the bit to dress these days. Following on from Patricia Field's limited edition bottles for the fizzy sensation, are these new designs from Roberto Cavalli, to mark the start of Milan Fashion Week. Only 300,000 will be made of the three variations, and in true Cavalli style, they are pretty flash. Dressed to the lid in animal print, I'm betting these beauties will leave Cavalli's usual crew (J.Lo, Victoria Beckham & co.) clamouring to get a taste.

Get a Prada fix at Forever 21

prada forever 21 cardigan lace.jpg
Hey don't I know you from somewhere? Forever21's trendier offshoot Twelve by Twelve have spawned this lace cardigan which is inspired by Prada's A/W 08 collection. It's a bargainous $28 and is probably the closest any of us will get to Prada lace. It's perfect for a romantic look, and the duskiness of the colour stops it looking too twee. Team with a pale chiffony skirt and lace ups for the evening or a pair of ankle length cigarette pants and canvas pumps for a chic daytime look.
