Paris Fashion Week kicks off tomorrow, so here is another show from Milan before we cast our eyes-Francewards. You can count on Marni's mastery of colour and the accessories are always something to write home about.
This season saw them reinvent the Bathing Belle, demure leggings and floaty '20s style tunics looked perfect for a day lazing on sand dunes. Piratical headscarves and jewellery added a touch of whimsy to the collection while short shorts lost their shock power with soft jackets and demure lace shell tops.
Prada is one of the few fashion houses who manage to combine creativity with a strong commercial side. The collection seemed to take a business woman's wardrobe and adapt for the beach, perhaps a subtle comment on the recession? This show sees retro images of palm trees and beaches printed onto sculptural jackets and smart bermuda shorts. All the models toted business-like handbags and sported neat ponytails.
The chandelier detailing on dresses and shoes is sure to be a hit with Miuccia fans, and continues her love of extreme embellishment.
Amping up the excitement for Milan Fashion Week Coca Cola have enlisted some of the best Italian designers to revamp the design of their Coca Cola Light bottle (the Italian version of Diet Coke).
Donatella Versace, Marni's Consuelo Castiglioni, Angela Missoni and Alberta Ferretti are some of the designers who have lent their talents to the soft drink bottles. The all-female team have come up with the designs to help raise money for the Milan for Abruzzo charity project. An earthquake hit the region last year and the charity is helping young women form the area to find scholarships.
The bottles go on sale from September 25th on a sticlty limited basis, and they will be on show at special areas dotted around the city.
Two guesses as to who inspired DSquared2's latest A/W 2009-10 collection...?
With a chilled Starbucks on hand, giant sunglasses and messy bed hair, it is hardly a surprise who designers Dan and Dean Caten have been thinking about. Plus it helps if you're in charge of designing her world tour wardrobe.
Marni is the king of eclecticism and so there were very few surprises as the Consuelo Castiglioni-designed collection was marched down the runway in Milan. Castiglioni focused very much on creating those much talked about "investment pieces" that are so valuable to us right now and are almost verging on necessity.
Don't be fooled:while the gold brocade dresses and embroidered silk peacoats are no doubt luxurious, they still remained somewhat understated and therefore, became perfect for fulfilling that 'investment' brief. Jewellery is always exciting and outside-the-square in Marni-land and once again, they didn't disappoint - chunky gold chains with floral motifs featured real gems and, even on film, were complete stunners.
Things turned a little weepy at the Jil Sander show last Friday, when Lithuanian model Auguste Abeliunaite was spotted with tears streaming down her cheeks as she hit the catwalk. It was enough to leave many wondering, was this all part of the show? Another blogger dubbed the incident a sign of our troubled economic times.
So, what was the story behind the tears? Read on to find out...
It was a royal fest at the Roberto Cavalli party on Sunday evening. Sarah Ferguson and her daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie stepped out to support the launch of the Italian designer's new snakeskin credit card.
Dressed in matching LBDs, the young princesses showed off their flair for style in black Just Cavalli party dresses, black tights and heels.
As for Roberto Cavalli's A/W 2009-10 collection - check out a video from the show after the jump...
