Proving the power of social media is not a force to mess with, Giancarlo Giammetti, has landed himself in hot water after slamming Valentino's latest couture collection.
The long-term business partner of Valentino Garavani took to his Facebook page to air his opinions of the collection, designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, which showed in Paris last week. Following the presentation, Giammetti said he was "just speechless" but was "not sad... just surprised....We have always supported the new designers and we love them, but this time we have to distance ourselves from this ridiculous circus." Ouch!

It is the couture collection which some critics are calling "desperate" to be cool. However I'm sure Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, the design duo behind Valentino, would disagree. For a fashion house built on sophisticated elegance, it was a whole new direction. Models were wrapped and draped in delicate layers of colourful chiffon to resemble fairytale woodland nymphs. With Alice Dellal (pictured below the cut) barely recognisable in white blonde hair and pale-face makeup. Click on to see more...

When you think Elie Saab, you can't help but think celebrity red carpet. The designer has become synonymous with the Hollywood elite for producing incredible sweeping gowns. And his latest spring/summer 2010 couture collection was no different. Pastels were the order of the day with lots and lots of floaty floor-length pale colour dresses. For the sex-factor it was frocks split all the way up to the hip, but for the most part it was a lot of the same-same.

It was a Mexican fiesta at the Jean Paul Gaultier show with the audience taken on a South American trip. It was an Aztec mission featuring gaucho trousers, bolero jackets, gigantic straw sombreros, and corseted bodices. The multi-coloured parade also hinted at the recent success of Avatar with reptilian-like cowboy boots in what was a fantasy journey of wild and tribal influences. The show ended with Mexican-born Arielle Dombasle, who lip-synched to her own recording of "Cucurrucucu Paloma."

All eyes (and flashbulbs) were on Kate Moss yesterday as she arrived in Paris for the launch of her new collection of handbags for Longchamp. The supermodel was joined by her is-he-or-isn't-he-fiancé Jamie Hince, as she first stopped by the British Ambassador's Residence to check out her pal Stella McCartney's pre-fall 2010 collection. Last night she officially launched her Longchamp line (above, left) at a glamorous party at The Ritz. Kate, who has worked with the label for years, created three themes for her bags Rock'n'Casual, Rock'n'Travel and Rock'n'Glam.

It was the first time that Karl Lagerfeld didn't use black or navy, instead it was all about the white and silver at Chanel's S/S 10 couture show. Nor was there a gold button or chain to be found, but rather an interesting blend of futurism and romanticism. The iconic Chanel suit was given an overhaul, this time incorporating floaty Bermuda shorts. Lagerfeld called this collection "neon-baroque" with splashes of sherbet yellow, pink and green. There was also lots of embellishments to add the necessary wow-factor. The show concluded with the ritual Chanel bridal march this time played out by Baptise Giabiconi and Abbey Lee Kershaw.

Despite a last minute model change (Mariacarla Boscono pulled out and was replaced by Natalia Vodianova, above) Givenchy's Spring/Summer 2010 show went off without a hitch. After seasons in ready-to-wear, Riccardo Tisci is breaking into couture with the fashion house by reflecting on its archives. With a distinct Seventies-inspired take on things, Tisci meshed boy/girl tuxedos with glam rock jumpsuits. However, things became a little confused when a series of nude-coloured evening garments with layer upon layer of chiffon took over the runway. FROW faces included Kanye West and his girlfriend, Amber Rose - click on to see more photos...
