Alexa Chung previews Madewell line at New York Fashion Week

alexachung_madewell_nyfwdebut.jpg

If you can look beyond the fact that "our" Alexa Chung has collaborated with an American brand and not a British one, then you may just be in for a treat. The model-turned-TV-presenter unveiled her debut range for J.Crew's Madewell line at New York Fashion Week yesterday. Pals Pixie Geldof and Poppy Delevigne lent a hand by modelling the collection which featured 1960s-inspired shorts and tea dresses.

"[Madewell] vision is kind of the same as mine. They like laid back styles, they like kind of relaxed clothes - classic, timeless things. So when they asked to collaborate, it was a perfect fit," she said. As for a long time partnership with Madewell, Alexa added: "We haven't really discussed another [collection] yet but it would be amazing to do."

New York Fashion Week A/W 2010: Monique Lhuillier

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2010 - Official Coverage - Runway - Day 5

The lady of the red carpet, Monique Lhuiller, took inspiration from Chinese warriors for her latest collection. Incorporating a tough military influence, her princess warriors were based on sharp, dramatic silhouettes and lots of shiny and tulle fabrics and embroidery. Kicking things off was a parade of deep red evening gowns, blooming with rosette applique. There were also a little extra something thrown into the mix in the form of a black-and-white tweed coat (hello, Chanel!) over a crimson jacquard gown, as well as shorter form-fitting styles.

New York Fashion Week A/W: Hervé Léger

Herve Leger - Runway - Fall 2010 MBFW

What a great new direction Max Azria is taking Hervé Léger in. The king of the bandage dress memorised his audience with sporty elements in his A/W 2010 offering. Mesh, laces and ribbons were all incorporated to his figure-hugging frock designs which continue to be adored by the celeb-set. A touch of the sci-fi, Avatar element was depicted in his earthy-colour panelling, and futuristic body-con silhouettes. Much more can be seen after the jump...

New York Fashion Week A/W 2010: Diane von Furstenberg

Diane Von Furstenberg - Runway - Fall 2010 MBFW

Staging her show on Valentine's Day was Diane von Furstenberg, who gave us all an extra special treat. Based around her mantra of "I always wanted to live a man's life in a woman's body," her A/W 2010 collection was full of traditional male looks designed for a female form. Men's suits, bolero jackets and tuxedos were matched with delicate evening dresses. Her iconic wrap dress was also given an overhaul with capped sleeves. Marking the finish of her working relationship with Nathan Jenden, who is moving on to work on his own label, I'd say they ended things on a high note.

New York Fashion Week A/W 2010: Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang - Runway - Fall 2010 MBFW

Look out Wall Street - Alexander Wang is coming! New York's favourite guy used business suits as the basis of his A/W 2010 collection. Dark tailored ensembles featured an array of fabrics such as velvet, flannel, tweed, wool and pinstripe. Deconstructed mens' pieces including waistcoats and trousers were redesigned into tailcoat jackets and shrugs. There was also an element of bondage with belts crisscrossed and layered over other garments and a Gothic gyspy feel in crushed velvet dresses.

New York Fashion Week: Models pause for McQueen at Fashion for Relief

Daphne Guinness, Helena Christensen, Naomi Campbell walk the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York

There was a sombre moment of remembrance during Friday night's Fashion for Relief show. Paying tribute to her friend Alexander McQueen, Naomi Campbell dedicated the finale of her charity show to his recent passing. Joined by Helena Christensen, Karen Elson, Daphne Guinness and other famous models, Campbell paused to commemorate McQueen's work by wearing his designs (above). Afterwards, she walked backstage holding hands with Angela Lindvall with tears in her eyes.
