Etsy discovery: Maisy Brown's tuxedo mini dress

etsyfind_tuxdress.jpg

Unsurprisingly, Etsy seller Maisy Brown's pretty tuxedo dresses are some of her bestsellers. A very cute take on the ever-popular mini prom dress, this has the added bonus of being custom made to fit your measurements. For that, I think it's worth every penny of the $225 price (though that does sadly make it ineligible for my 100 Cheap Party Dresses feature). There's also one in a US 6 - 8 going for $210 if you need it quickly, though I know I wouldn't be able to resist the pull of something made specifically for my shape.

Don't forget to check out Maisy's blog, too, if only to see how she can turn a tablecloth into an amazing frock!

Shopping Guide: Where to buy 40s / 50s vintage reproduction, retro rockabilly and burlesque clothing

vintage_repro_shopping.jpg

The retro finds on my Christmas wishlist yesterday had Angel asking where else she could find vintage reproduction dresses and retro / rockabilly styles. Longterm readers will know that this is one my favourite subjects, so I'm happy to share some of my finds with you. Under the jump you'll find quite an extensive list of online stores specialising in vintage reproduction pieces and vintage-inspired clothing from the burlesque and Old Hollywood eras. It's split into two lists; first stores based in the UK and then US sites that ship internationally. Happy shopping!

Best of London Designer Sale - credit crunch, schmedit crunch!

londonsamplesale.jpgPsssst! If you're in London today or tomorrow, get yourself to The Hospital Club on Endell Street for the Best of London Designer Sale. It was deathly quiet today, despite the fact there are loads of amazing British designers up for grabs at very good prices. Isabelle picked up a Felder Felder top for £40 and we both swooned over so much Jonathan Saunders, Erdem and Todd Lynn it hurt.

Prices start at about £20 for a House of Holland tee. I hope someone fits into the £70 Jonathan Saunders belted blouse that was *this* much too small for me. It deserves to go to a good home!

La Senza branches out, with 40% off the most glam lingerie

lasenza.jpg

I was very kindly given some La Senza gift vouchers the other day, so today I popped along to the new Covent Garden store to treat myself. I must admit to rarely visiting before, in fact the only La Senza stuff I own was bought for me at Christmas (by my mother).

With that in mind, my first stop this time was the 'Glam' section, where prices have been slashed by 40% in the run-up to Christmas. I wanted to see what was on offer now I'm not living with my parents and sleeping in snowman PJs (as often as I used to)...

X Factor's Diana wears Kate Moss for Topshop for Take That week

diane_xfactor_katemossdress.jpg

The X Factor stylists continue to surprise us with their choices for the remaining contestants. They're definitely good at mixing designer and high street to keep things accessible for the viewers. This week they put little boho princess Diana in the epitome of recognisable high street fashion - Kate Moss for Topshop. But they customised the Lotus Flower dress (£60) to make it a bit more unique. It looks like three dresses were used to create the tiered effect of Diana's loose maxi dress (unless this is a sold out design we don't remember, or one off sample).

Coast 'do' The Sartorialist and Sex & The City. Sort of.

coast_sart.jpg

Are the folks at Coast big fans of The Sartorialist? It seems so, judging by their gorgeous Autumn / Winter photoshoot, which features a model being snapped in Paris (sorry, we're on a French tip today!) looking very much like the stylish women the Sart chronicles on his blog. There's also a bit of an homage to the Paris episodes of Sex and The City with some romantic cafe scenes. I reckon Carrie would love the 'Couture Bow' dress (above, £220). She'd probably team it with bright shoes and wild hair, though!
