As the 2009 Cannes Film Festival marched on over the weekend, more big stars emerged on the red carpet to support their films. Some of the stars to step out included Rachel Weisz, Eva Longoria, Abbie Cornish and Mariah Carey, who has made several glamorous appearances for her new film, Precious. My favourite so far has to be Rachel who wowed the crowd in a strapless bottle green ombre thigh-splitting Valentino gown. To catch up on all the looks from the weekend click the photo below.
Here to promote 'Air Doll' Korean actress Bae Doona has been making waves at Cannes, we love her outfits. Obviously it helps being an ex-model, but her choice of dresses is pretty fashion savvy.
She sidesteps the problems normally associated with wearing a red dress on the red carpet by choosing a Christian Dior dress packed with textural pleats and folds. Nude is a big trend this season, and Bae's milky white skin complements the floaty frock perfectly. We're also quite enamoured with her bowl cut, très chic!
The 2009 Cannes International Film Festival kicked off overnight to its usual glittery fanfare. Despite reports that the event will be toned down this year in light of the economic climate, the stars who stepped out onto the red carpet didn't seem to take notice. Joined at the hip were Elizabeth Banks and Aishwarya Rai in contrasting ruby red Armani Prive and white Roberto Cavalli ball gowns. Tilda Swinton was also there on opening night, commanding the cameras in a bordeaux silk skirt and suede jacket ensemble by Haider Ackermann, whom she also accompanied.
This video by Style.it is amazing. It gives us a fantastic preview of what it was like inside the Chanel showroom during the Cannes Film Festival. Sure it was just a room full of beautiful Chanel clothes and accessories, but it was just amazing to see that the tiniest of details were emblazoned with the Chanel double C logo (like the numerous clothes racks), and the luxurious items celebrities could just waltz in and try on for size. It's a shame we can't do that in my closest Chanel boutique... even if I were to stay inside the store ;)
This is a great example of show-stopping high designer style. Natalie Portman and Rose McGowan upstaged their fellow event-goers yesterday by taking fashionable risks at the amFAR's Cinema Against AIDS gala in Cannes. Natalie, who for once wasn't wearing Lanvin, opted for this intricately structured couture dress by Givenchy. While Rose looked magical in this Dolce & Gabbana painted organza gown, which popped against her crimson curls. Plus, you can barely even notice that her left leg is in a brace. A resounding two thumbs up to both.
Sometimes it really does help if your name is Madonna. The superstar made another grand entrance yesterday at the amFAR's Cinema Against AIDS gala in Cannes, wearing this stunning coral silk satin pussy-bow dress from Stella McCartney's yet-to-be-unveiled spring '09 collection. That's right, Madge is wearing a piece that won't be seen on McCartney's catwalk for another four months... talk about pulling power! The charity event attracted a swarm of 'slebs including Sharon Stone, Georgina Chapman, Diane Kruger, Dita Von Teese and the Roitfelds.
We've already shown you the video, but since Madonna's sparkly Chanel flapper dress at Cannes is all anyone can talk about today, we had to bring you a closer look (although not too close - this dress is majorly see-through!) Some say she out-sparkled Sharon Stone, while others aren't particularly enthralled by her look. But either way, there's no denying she's definitely the Queen of Cannes. French TV didn't broadcast her red carpet arrival live for nothing!
