Team Shiny head to The Gadget Show Live

gs_live.jpg
We interrupt usual proceedings to bring you some exciting news from the people we fight with over the office playlist our best friends at Shiny Media's tech sites, lead by the lovely folks at Shiny Shiny and Tech Digest.

Shiny Media has joined forced with The Gadget Show Live as the sole online partner, to provide expert advice and interactive, educational sessions within the 'How To Theatre' at the event at the NEC.

That means a quiet office full of fashionistas as the tech team decamp to Birmingham over the weekend of 17th to 19th April 2009 to talk to the public about everything from digital photography to synching your music.

For more information on the show, and to buy tickets, visit The Gadget Show Live's website.

The Shiny Fashion Forums are back!

forumslogo.jpg

If you can't stop talking about fashion (and beauty, and accessories...and all kinds of other random stuff), you'll be glad to know that, after a slight hiatus, our Fashion Forums are back!

The Shiny Fashion forums bring together readers of all the women's blogs on the Shiny Media network - including CQ, Shoewawa, The Bag Lady and Bridalwave - and gives them somewhere to talk candidly about the things they love. Most of the moderation is done by a very dedicated (and much-loved) team of forum devotees, rather than our staff, which gives them a much more independent feel, and means we get to visit along with the rest of you and join in the conversations, rather than leading them.

If you fancy joining in the chat, sign up for free at www.shinyfashionforums.com. We'd love to meet you properly!

Competition News - our Mulberry handbag winner!

juliabag.jpgCongratulations to Tracy Tuason from the Philippines, who was the winner of our 'win a Mulberry handbag' competition with Handbag.com. We asked you all the spread the word about the Handbag Amnesty, a great charity initiative in conjunction with Cancer Research UK. We were really touched that Tracy was willing to blog about the campaign despite being so far away from the UK. In a stroke of fate, we let her know she was the winner the day before her birthday, so hopefully that £250 Mulberry Julia was a nice extra pressie!

Thank you so much to all the people who blogged or commented with support for the campaign. Keep reading for a little extra thank you from Handbag.com. Also, sorry our announcement isn't as swish as this one!

Catwalk Queen gets a makeover on Facebook

facebookpage.jpgWe interrupt our usual proceedings to bring you a link to our new home on facebook, the Catwalk Queen blog network page. It's much better than our old facebook group; it's not so invasive, it's updated with the latest stories every day, it puts up embarrassing little photos of the staff with no prompting, it allows you to rate the site out of five, and it doesn't have a double negative in the title (oops).

To join and show some love, click here to join our page. You know you want to.

Comments are back!

Yep, the comments are back!

Feel free to tell us all the things you've wanted to tell us for the last fortnight by leaving a note below. We missed you!

Sorry!

Man down!

Ok, not a man exactly. In fact, it's the comments. The comments are down.

This hurts me more than it hurts you, I'm sure. We're working on fixing the problem, and we hope to see you soon! Remember you can still have your say on The Forums in the meantime.

Panorama takes on Primark over child labour and sweatshops...

At 9pm tonight on BBC1, Panorama screens 'Primark: On The Rack'. If you watch it, you may see a few faces you recognise. Together with Hippyshopper editor Abi, Isabelle and I spent a few hours last week with a film crew from the show, talking about the fast fashion industry and why bargain retailers outsource to foreign factories (and the associated problems with that). We also discussed why Primark is so popular, showing some of their most famous items on camera. We spent a good few hours filming, but obviously only a tiny bit of what we had to say - if any of it at all - will make the final cut...
