London Fashion Week: Alice Temperley's Sicilian Spring/Summer 2014
In the beautiful setting of The Savoy surrounded by front row guests such as Olivia Palermo and Anna Kendrick, Alice Temperley invited us to join her in Sicily with her SS14 collection. "I dreamt about celebrating life in a rich, full and fragrant Sicilian adventure, dressed in luxurious fabrics with detailed textures and delicate patterns and prints", noted the designer, who has honed a kind of decadent restraint in her work over the last few seasons. Perhaps it's down to one of her biggest fans, The Duchess of Cambridge? It seems unlikely, although of the 41 piece collection we could certainly envisage her in more than one number.
For Spring/Summer 2014, the Temperely London woman is fresh, ethereal and romantic. The colour palette moved through various shades of pink, mint, and SS14's favourite colour, lilac, with black pieces impacting in-between, whilst the predominant shapes ranged from voluminous silhouettes to trapezes. Texture and embellishment reigned, with the show notes detailing a heady list of features: miniature basket weaves adorned dresses and blouses alike, appliqué appeared on tulle and chiffon, silk flowers were hand-cut and animal prints hand-painted.
Whilst we'd love to see The Duchess formally known as Kate Middleton try something a little different like a maxi skirt and evening coat combo (or even one of the more dramatic looks, like a black rose coat or structured fuchsia top with matching floor length embroidered skirt) we think she'll have her eye on the beautiful blush evening gowns or sweet knee length jacquard dresses.
All in all, we were hard-pressed to find fault, but what do you think? Let us know in the comments and watch the full show below.
