DAKS are regularly a firm favourite of mine every time their show comes around at each season of London Fashion Week. There's something about their simplistic and effortless approach to their collections which, although the heritage checks can get a bit old for my taste, they still keep me wanting to see more. In light of this, I was pleasantly surprised to see more of the new and less of the old throughout their Spring / Summer 2014 collection today at day one of London Fashion Week.

Whilst remaining on the right side of conservative for their undoubtedly loyal customer, the SS14 collection offered up an ultra soft and feminine yet luxe angle making it the first catwalk collection so far this season that's got me wishing the Autumn / Winter 2013 months away. Scattered with shades of dusky and soft pinks, shapes took form on separates with masculine tayloring on trousers as well as modern-feel sporty sweat tops with high grown on necks. Broken up with injections of camel in the form of tan leather as well as all-white looks, DAKS' trademark checks were still present but mainly on organza mesh fabric bases adding a sheer quality which felt new.

The SS14 collection had a resort holiday feel with a premium edge that wouldn't look out of place on the Italian island of Capris. Watch the full video of the show below.
