Last season Dolce & Gabbana lured us into their Autumn / Winter 2013 world with the temptation of rich reds and luxe Italian authenticity. This year was no different. Held at Milan's Metropol this weekend, the collection was honed as an imaginary journey to rediscover ancient Sicily as described by the designers said themselves. I was pleased to find the collection saw the same level of luxe tradition as recent seasons. For Spring / Summer 2014, quite ironically in the face of recent events (the designer duo are currently facing scandal surrounding tax evasion), the collection is themed around money.

Never ones to shy away from controversy, for the Italian designers the colour of the season is undoubtedly gold. The rich foil-like texture took form on their usual brand of ornate luxe dresses, whilst prints in the same shade depicted old ancient Roman ruins. Waisted feminine shapes were belted with large gold medallion coin belts and fully embellished two piece ensembles were modern in shape with longer line tunics sitting with short a-line skirts, but classic in texture with fully decorated surfaces.

The injection of black added an additional luxe element as sheer textures appeared layered over the top of cami shapes and fine luxe delicate lace completed the truly Italian feel. The vast collection went on to see decorated embellishments take form on dresses of all shades including green and red, straying somewhat from the established theme.

Complete with braided hair featuring golden garlands intertwined within plaits, blush make up with a flush pink lip and gold coin style earrings, the overall look was luxe and want-worthy. As usual with Dolce & Gabbana, it was all about the finale and as an army of gold foil lace clad models hit the runway, it became clear this season was no different.
