Oh, Andre Leon Talley. His personality-and his capes-have come to overshadow his considerable fashion pedigree in recent years as he took on projects like America's Next Top Model and a very public weight-loss campaign with Oprah Winfrey. It's easy to forget he began his career with Andy Warhol and was an acolyte of Diana Vreeland before becoming Anna Wintour's inexplicable right-hand man. His garish public persona, robust figure and rather déclassé besties Mariah Carey and Kimora Lee Simmons, make him an odd fit for the discriminating Wintour, but man does he dish out the one liners.

Vanity Fair has a rare candid and expansive interview with the larger-than-life personality in their September issue. Here are some choice quotes.

"The world has become too casual, and people have become lazy. There was a time when people went on the airplane with gloves ... It's about gloves, O.K., darling? It's about gloves. Listen."

"I swear on my grandmother's grave that I never slept with a single designer in my life. Never, ever desired, never was asked, never was approached, never, ever bought, in my entire career. Never. Not one. Skinny or fat. Never."

"If I was a couple, I wouldn't like to stay in the same bedroom. It is very un-chic in Europe to sleep in the same bedroom."

"Ms. Wintour has had her bob since she was in her 20s. I have never seen her hair pulled back. Never. Not even at tennis."
