Teen Choice Awards 2013: Trends, Twerking and a Tearful Dedication
If we had to use one word to describe the outfits at the Teen Choice Awards 2013, it would be...eclectic. As hoards of teen-friendly actors, singers and entertainers gathered at the Gibson Ampitheatre at Universal Studios for last night's ceremony, we looked on with envy, lust and occasional horror at some of the fashion choices made by our favourite stars.
Most celebs opted for prints or colourful ensembles, with Chloe Mortetz, Sandra Bullock and Chelsea Kane all looking their best on the red carpet.
Actress Kerry Washington was stunning in an embellished Stella McCartney number embroidered with hearts, lips, and flowers (which she teamed with a sparkling pair of Louboutins and a flattering red lip) whilst 21-year-old Selena Gomez surprised us in a chic yet sexy Cushnie et Ochs dress with a double thigh split, which she finished off with a pair of Lace Nicholas Kirkwood heels. Like Selena, 'The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev also chose a more directional look, opting for paint splattered separates from the J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2013 collection.
With so many attendee's favouring prints, an oh-my-god-we're-wearing-the-same-designer situation was inevitable at some point. Our newest girl crush Lily Collins ended up in an accidental fashion face off with Disney starlet Bella Thorne, with both ladies sporting the same tropical print from Fausto Puglisi's Resort 2014 collection. We're still not sure who emerged as the victor, as the critics seem as divided as we are!
Other celebrities leaving fashion fans on the fence include Miley Cyrus (who turned up to the event in a revealing Saint Laurent outfit consisting of a sheer shirt, belted skirt and very little else) and Hailee Steinfeld who sported a quirky star covered dress by British designer Henry Holland, which we loved.
Whilst the Teen Choice Awards upheld its usual fun and carefree attitude thanks to One Directon heartthrob Harry Styles' impromptu twerking and Pitch Perfect actress Rebel Wilson sporting a wetsuit with her name across the front, the audience fell silent as Lea Michele took to the stage. The Glee star, who won the award for choice TV comedy actress, paid a moving tribute to her late boyfriend Cory Monteith whos tragic death shocked fans earlier this year. "I wanted to dedicate this award to Cory", she said tearfully. "He was very special to me, and also to the world, and we were very luck to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile and his beautiful, beautiful heart."
