The Royal Ascot race meeting ended on Saturday, after five days of fabulous hats, pretty dresses, killer heels and occasional flouting of the dress code. Celebrities were out in force, from Olympic athletes to Bollywood stars, all sporting their best Phillip Treacy headwear and summer frocks. And we have a gallery of some of the best, and most unexpected, moments from the event.

Royal Ascot 2013

Royal Ascot is all about tradition, and with Queen Elizabeth II in attendance, there are certain protocols that must be followed - attendees in the Royal Enclosure that surrounds the royal box face strict rules as to what they can wear - men must be in morning dress, women must wear hats or large headpieces (no fascinators) and ensure their dresses are of modest length (just above the knee or longer) with straps at least an inch wide. In the slightly more casual Grandstand the rules are a little looser, though many still choose to dress up for the occasion. The result is a parade of big hats, bodycon dresses and nude peep toes, plus the odd cheesy promotional tie up (Cheska, we're looking at you).
