For me, the MET Costume Institute Gala rivals the Oscars when it comes to the style stakes, and this year the celebrities in attendance didn't disappoint! Last night on a beautiful New York City evening, the A listers quite literally 'rocked' the red carpet for the MET Gala 2013. The theme was Punk: Chaos to Couture, and although a handful of naughty fashionistas strayed from the punk path and just wore whatever they fancied, most made an effort, with some making perhaps a little too much *cough* Madonna *cough*

Co-chair Rooney Mara kicked off the evening in a gorgeous white Givenchy Couture number, whilst hostess with the mostess, Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour opted for the least punk dress she could find; a pretty floral Chanel Couture number. Actress Amber Heard looked stunning in a red floor length Emilio Pucci gown made especially for her (jealous, us?) whilst the gorgeous Cameron Diaz slicked back her blonde locks and wore a show stopping electric blue dress by Stella McCartney featuring AW13's must-have piece - the cape.

Following her unforgettable metallic dress last year, we could have forgiven Carey Mulligan for throwing in the towel this year, however the Great Gatsby actress turned heads once again in a chic and sexy black Balenciaga dress (with punktastic safety pin!) Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev embraced her dark side in a corseted Monique Lhuillier gown, as did Kerry Washington who opted for a complex Vera Wang number detailing a low v neck with lace underlay, metallic print, mermaid skirt, billowing peplum and train. Phew!

Gwyneth Paltrow was more pretty than punk in a vibrant, custom made Valentino Couture gown (although she looked great, so we'll let her off) whilst Nicole Richie divided the fashion world in a high neck, long sleeve Topshop dress, finished off with some, erm, interesting hair and makeup...
