Chanel Cruise 2014

To finish off the working week here is what is making news in the land of fashion:

1. The Chanel Cruise 2014 collection bowed last night in Singapore. Guests including Cara Delevingne and Anna Mouglalis attended the show at the 19th century Raffles Hotel. The collection was inspired by the history of Chanel and Southeast Asia. According to WWD:

"Tropical accents came via raffia dresses and airy, loose-legged cream trousers and a dress with stained black-and-white feathers on the bust, which were mixed with neutral greys, beiges and whites. And yes, those loose chains of pearls were cinched around waists and wrists."

2. The patriarch of the Missoni empire, Ottavio Missoni, has sadly passed away at the age of 92. The label co-founder died in the early hours of yesterday morning at his home in Italy. Ottavio started his eponymous clothing label in 1953 with his wife. The news tops of a difficult couple of months for the Missoni family. Ottavio's son, Vittorio and his wife disappeared while travelling in a light aircraft off the coast of Venezuela in January. {Vogue UK}

3. While his career as a teacher may not be blossoming in the way that he hoped, John Galliano has given his first extensive interview to Vanity Fair since being shunned by the fashion world. The designer has chosen the title for his first confessional following his anti-Semitic outburst and subsequent sacking from Dior in 2011. {WWD}

Kim Kardashian Met Gala 20134. The chintz sofa disaster that was Kim Kardashian's Met Gala outfit has been defended by Riccardo Tisci. This makes sense since it was him who designed her Givenchy gown complete with glove-sleeves. That's right, glove-sleeves.

"I said, we should give her our Punk moment with a romantic beautiful flower-printed dress. I have dressed many pregnant women in the past. People can say what they want. To me, pregnancy is the most beautiful thing in the world, and when you celebrate something, you give people flowers. I think she looked amazing. She was the most beautiful pregnant woman I dressed in my career." {WWD / Image: @kimkardashian}

5. The Duchess of Cambridge's milliner has talked about what it is like to dress the most popular member of the royal family. "Kate Middleton is very elegant and wears hats so well. It has been a real honour for her to wear my pieces," said Jane Taylor. "The Royals, like all of us, want to look and feel fabulous,' she adds. 'Confidence, expression, sophisticated and feminine." {Marie Claire UK}
