Swimwear of the day: Wrapover swimsuit from Next
I'm so grateful for the fact swimsuits are now a viable option for the under 40s again. When I was a teenager and student, if you wore a one-piece you were a complete social leper...but in recent years they've crept back into style and there are more modern, less functional styles appearing on the high street each season.
I for one am glad. I love a good bikini, but I also like to have a swimsuit in my suitcase if I'm going away - for days when I'm going to be swimming or snorkelling a lot. That said, while I'm a long way from the classic black one-piece with a floral motif that's pushed upon the older consumer, I'm also not quite young and carefree enough for cutout-heavy 'monokini' styles or plunging 80s numbers.
I think this one piece from Next (£30) bridges the gap perfectly. The wrapover top and waist-cinching belt give it a Bond Girl sexiness, but you also get the extra coverage and support lower down. There's even a bit of built-in control on the stomach - great for the tail-end of a holiday when all those cocktails and rich dinners are taking their toll!
Imagine this with a huge hat, even huger sunglasses, and some kind of bejewelled sandal. Beach chic at its simplest and best!
