Helena Bonham-Carter recycles an old dress for the Oscars
We would have thought the Oscars would be the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new frock or call up your designer mates for a favour, but perhaps when you've been to the awards show as many times as Helena Bonham Carter, you think 'why bother'? So much emphasis is put on people's outfits (especially from people like us!) but it's always fun when someone bucks the trend for couture dresses and million dollar diamonds.
The star arrived at the Academy Awards tonight in a very familiar dress adapted from a bridal design by her go-to designer, Vivienne Westwood. Helena first wore the tiered black and white number to the London Film Festival screening of Great Expectactions last year, when we reported on how apt it was that Miss Havisham was wearing a wedding dress (albeit custom made in a different colour).
Helena obviously loved the look if she chose to wear it again four months later to the Oscars. We all assume the big ticket Oscar attendees get their pick of the latest gowns for the big night free of charge, but could it be that Helena doesn't get the same treatment? Maybe she just liked the dress and wanted to show it off again at a more high profile event? Or perhaps she wanted to show off her weight loss? The dress definitely looks a lot less fitted this time around...
