BAFTA ladies of lace - Amy Adams and Zawe Ashton
There was a lot of black on the red carpet at the 2013 BAFTA awards, but it was great to see that it wasn't at all boring. Studs, lace, sheer sections and texture took the so-called 'safe' colour to the extreme.
Amy Adams gave black a couture spin, wearing an Elie Saab Couture gown with a revealing lace panel across the chest and long lacy sleeves, plus lace panels on the hips and a split skirt. There were a lot of design details in one dress, but she definitely pulled it off, keeping everything else simple to show off the neckline. A big bun kept her hair away from her face, and pink earrings added a bit of colour without overwhelming the look.
Meanwhile, Zawe Ashton left her tomboy Fresh Meat character very far behind, vamping it up in a very sheer gown by Julien Macdonald.
Zawe's very quickly becoming one to watch when it comes to red carpet events - she's not afraid to try something that's hard to wear or a bit 'marmite', but because she's so tall and toned she can pull off just about anything. In this case, there's not a lot of dress...but she's working it!
