Ossie Clark relaunches again... this time for Debenhams!
Hurrah! Ossie Clark is back again... this time for Debenhams. We feared the worst when in 2009 the iconic 1970s label announced it was shutting its doors for a second time due to the recession. The label, which was only relaunched two years prior, confirmed in November that it would be returning to stores thanks to a brand new deal with Debenhams.
Now we can give you your first look at the collection, which has been headed up by its new creative director, Nicholas Georgiou. The Central Saint Martins graduate has dipped into the label's archives and designed a strong 95-piece collection which is all ready on sale at ossieclarklondon.co.uk
"The new range will have all the necessities of on-trend fashion but keeping with the DNA of Ossie Clark. It's going to be accessible to everyone who loves fashion, bringing them something genuinely unique with beautiful fabrics, a fabulously rich heritage and a wealth of design," Georgiou said.
The spring / summer 2013 collection features a number of reinterpreted Clark classics such as the spiral-cut maxi dress (currently on display at the V&A Museum), and the maxi moss crepe dress, which have both been given a makeover. There are also a number of unreleased vintage pieces that Georgiou has added his own flavour to.
"It is modern, feminine and romantic, as was the original Ossie Clark," he explained. "However, it is not an exact homage to the late brand or a complete replication of the original vintage styles - that would defeat the object of a successful modern day business. By looking at the key shapes and utilising the lines, drape and gathers of the original sketches, I feel Ossie Clark London has created the look of where the label might have been if it had continued to trade today."
Sizes range from 8 to 18 and the collection is priced between £49 and £189. It will hit Debenhams stores nationwide on January 21, and is available for purchase now at ossieclarklondon.co.uk
