Golden Globes Red Carpet: Soft and sparkly
Along with all the red and black, there were plenty of soft, muted shades on the red carpet at the Golden Globes. From washed-out lavender to pale, pale green, pastels have been revived with the help of a little (or a lot of) sparkle. Here are a few of the most memorable gowns...
Kerry Washington in Miu Miu
Kerry's topping a lot of best-dressed lists at the moment, and we loved her turn in dramatic Giles Deacon a few days ago. For the Golden Globes she kept her silhouette really simple, and lifted her hemline off the floor, but there's plenty of interest by way of all that sparkle. Her nude and silver embellished dress is Miu Miu, and we think it looks pretty fantastic.
Lea Michele in Elie Saab
Another member of the Angelina Jolie leg club, Glee's golden girl shimmered in a halter neck gown with a deep split by Elie Saab and a flash or two of thigh. The shape looks great on her and adds height to the petite star. We also love the soft makeup - sometimes she can go a bit over the top in an attempt to look sexy, but she looks much better when she keeps things more natural.
I guess we're supposed to call her 'Big Bang Theory' star Mayim Bialik now, but to a generation, she'll always be Blossom. Mayim opted for super-feminine and pretty in a demure powder blue dress with sheer sleeves and loads of embellishment.
Isla Fisher in Reem Acra
Gorgeous Aussie Isla always looks beautiful on the red carpet and never gets the attention she deserves (probably because she stands back when her partner Sacha Baron Cohen engages in, ahem, 'antics'). At the Globes this year she's perfection in a Reem Acra gown with a sheer top section and trailing crystals throughout.
Kristen Bell in Jenny Packham
A prim, high necked maternity gown? This really, really shouldn't work. But somehow, it really does. Kristen's so petite that from the front she doesn't even look pregnant. In truth, she's almost ready to pop, and this romantic Jenny Packham gown is the perfect shape to hide that bump. She's radiant, and this unusual choice is great on her.
