Atelier Versace Spring 2013 kicks off Couture Fashion Week
Despite the freeze that has gripped most parts of Europe, the Atelier Versace Spring 2013 show carried on. Donatella Versace wasn't going to allow a few inches of snow stop her from unveiling her latest couture collection in Paris overnight. After all, it was her show that signalled the beginning of couture week!
Heating up the catwalk, Versace's love of sexy dressing was in top form. She was inspired by architecture, primarily the Le Centorial building in the heart of Paris which is made from glass, steal beams and iron, and was also the location of the show.
"I was totally taken with the way the fragility of the glass contrasted with the strength of that solid structure" she said.
Her modern constructions featured a lot of glitz and gold glamour and included slim pinstripes, cut away dresses and suits to reveal hints of skin, gold-threaded denim, and chiffon minidresses. She loved to mix fabrics such as tulle, snakeskin, and crystal embellishments. There was also a white mink coat (not exactly spring/summer appropriate) with mirror embroidery that took around 500 hours to construct.
There was a definite element of fun and flirtation with this collection. Although it was couture there were many pieces that were given a modern and wearable touch. Pieces that could be worn not solely by the Hollywood set. Speaking of, Donatella also spoke her mind regarding red carpet dressing, which has taken hold of tinsel town lately.
"I think red carpet dressing can be safe and a bit boring," she said. "I'm all for classy dressing but not classic dresses."
As evident in this latest couture collection, uou definitely won't see any classic dresses here!
