Alexis Mabille's sugary sweet Spring 2013 Haute Couture collection
It was sugar and spice and all things nice at the Alexis Mabille Spring / Summer 2013 presentation last evening. The designer, who was recently made an official haute couture member, was out to show off his craft.
"In the past, I focused on structure," he said. "Here I concentrated on the craftsmanship - what we can do for the client."
Setting his aim squarely at the A-listers (hello red carpet!) Mabille's couture confections floated down the sugary pink... and I mean pink catwalk. The show opened with sheer chiffon and lace embroidered blouses featuring frothy peplums and satin slimline trousers. Delicate short dresses were lined with tulle hems and belted in at the waist.
Then the show stoppers begun. Giant full-skirted gowns comprising of tiers of tulle were worn beneath shimmery tuxedo jackets. There was also plenty of off-the-shoulder action both in a series of cocktail and evening dresses. Another eye-opener was the full satin jumpsuit adorned with a black Chantilly lace train (pictured, above) which was attached to the front with bows. Fishtail gowns then swept along the bright pink runway in shades including butter, apricot and peach.
Alongside the pastels were flashes of bold red and fuchsia, and always plenty of chiffon, netting, belts and bows. A little girl would have a field day in this pretty box of lolly dresses. Nevertheless, it was a striking black belted dress which revealed ample leg (pictured, above) that really showed off Mabille's versatility. I wonder what Mabille's best friend Dita Von Teese, who sat on the front row, made of all the pretty floaty creations.
