Alexander McQueen to skip the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week
We just finished telling you about Peter Som cancelling his catwalk show in New York, when word filtered through that Alexander McQueen will also be skipping the runway at Paris Fashion Week.
Sarah Burton, who is pregnant with twins, will be on maternity leave in London during Paris Fashion Week in March. But rather than skip the event all together, she and the fashion house have decided to stage a small presentation instead of a catwalk show. The plan will be to present the McQueen Autumn 2013 collection to 100 editors on March 5 at 4:30 pm, with buyer appointments scheduled for the following day.
It has been a busy time for Burton, who in December, received an OBE (Order of the British Empire) from the Queen for her service to the British fashion industry. She was also famously put in charge of creating the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress in 2011.
And it seems the designer has more in common with Kate Middleton now that both of them will soon be new mothers. When asked in December whether she would be designing any maternity clothing for Kate, she said: "I hope I will be."
While a catwalk show isn't on the cards for March, a representative for McQueen did confirm that the house would be taking up its usual timeslot of Tuesday, 7:30 pm for spring 2014. Even though the reasons are understandable, we sure will miss the theatrical drama of a McQueen show at Paris Fashion Week *sigh*.
