kate middleton prince william april 2012.jpgIt is arguably one of the worst-kept secrets but now that the news of Kate Middleton's pregnancy has been confirmed we are, of course, delighted! But it isn't all champagne corks and celebrations just yet. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have had a nervous wait overnight as Kate was rushed to King Edward VII Hospital suffering from acute morning sickness.

An anxious Prince William stayed by his wife's bedside as she was put on a drip to help restore fluids and nutrients after falling ill at her parent's home in Berkshire on the weekend. It is believed the royal couple were hoping to keep the news a secret until Christmas Day with Catherine less than 12 weeks into her pregnancy. However they were forced to make a premature announcement yesterday when Kate was admitted to hospital.

Sources say that Kate is responding well to treatment and that there is "no cause for alarm." Nevertheless doctors at the hospital aren't taking any chances, deciding to keep the Duchess in for the next few days as media attention outside the facility continues to swell.

While it is understood that the Middletons were told of the happy news at the weekend, several members of the Royal Family - including the Queen and Prince Charles - were kept unaware only finding out yesterday. Prince Harry, who is currently on service in Afghanistan, was informed that he will soon be an uncle by email.

"The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in central London with hyperemesis gravidarum," said the palace. "As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter."

Once the Duchess has recovered we do wonder whether she'll be taking any pregnancy tips from her close friend and her wedding dress designer, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. Burton herself is expecting twins and is due to give birth in February. We, of course, can't wait to see what maternity styles the Duchess will soon be sporting together with her new fringed hairdo. Get well soon Kate!
