Kate Middleton back on board in green McQueen
After a fortnight of severe morning sickness Kate Middleton was back and beaming as she made her first official public debut since announcing her pregnancy. The Duchess of Cambridge made an unexpected television appearance, taking part in the BBC's annual Sports Personality of the Year awards.
Joining David Beckham on stage, Kate presented two awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award to four-time Olympic medallist, Lord Sebastian Coe. She also awarded Bradley Wiggins with the Sports Personality of the Year award and the runners-up award to London 2012 heptathlon gold medallist, Jessica Ennis (above). For her return to the spotlight Kate chose a a long green bell sleeve dress by Alexander McQueen (so it seems Sarah Burton might be getting her wish after all). A shorter version of this peplum dress is currently on sale for £1,343. She teamed her frock with some black suede Jimmy Choo pumps, a pair of Kiki McDonough blue topaz earrings, and a pendant necklace from Asprey.
Today marks the Queen's Christmas Party, which will be held at Buckingham Palace. It will be followed by a series of further royal engagements leading up to Christmas. However whether the Duchess will be in attendance is unknown. After spending a brief spell in hospital suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, Kate was released a week ago and ordered to rest. According to the Telegraph she is to spend Christmas Day with her family in Berkshire rather than join the Royal family at Sandringham for their traditional Christmas Day church service.
"As things stand, Catherine and her family do not feel confident about her going to Norfolk," a friend told the newspaper. "They would rather that she stays a quick drive away from hospital. William will probably go to Sandringham, but they are not sure whether he will go for Christmas Day or later in the holiday."
