If you thought last year's animal print faux fur coats were a bit much, you just wait for what this season is dishing up. Fun fur is about to get even more ridiculous, as we move away from familiar patterns and into texture and bold dyes. Your fur is nothing for 2012 if it's not patchwork.

In the real fur stakes, this look was all over the catwalks. Preen Line had long belted coats in slim patchwork rectangles of wintery plums, browns and greens, and Peter Som showed voluminous coats with red, white and brown panels.

But we're only interested in the fakes, and kicking off the trend there were Meadham Kirchhoff, who showed a series of increasingly over the top faux fur coats with monster faces, stripes and eyes emblazoned on them. On the high street, the look has been adapted with slightly more of a hippy vibe - Very's purple and brown coat looked amazing on the catwalk at the recent LOOK show, and we can't get over Matalan's super-cheap brown offering.
