LA was awash with tulle and jewels on Sunday evening as some of our favourite stars took to the red carpet for the 64th annual Emmy Awards.

Blue was the most popular colour choice of the evening, with almost every other dress appearing in some form of hue, from Heidi Klum's revealing sea foam gown by Alexandre Vautheir, to Downtown Abbey's Michelle Dockery, who looked stunning in a midnight Louis Vuitton gown.

New Girl star Zooey Deschanel looked gorgeous as usual, rocking the1950's look in a custom-made cornflower Reem Acra tiered prom dress with strapless sweetheart neckline, but it was Julianne Hough who took our breath away in a couture Georges Hobieka gown detailing a velvet bust, heavy beading and velvet petals on the hemline and train. The actress had hinted she'd be wearing something glamorous earlier that day, tweeting "going for a Midnight in Paris/Grace Kelly vibe for Emmys".

Punchy oranges and yellows also proved to be a hit with the star-studded guests - Padma Lakshmi and Ginnifer Goodwin wowed in two very different (but equally beautiful) Monique Lhuillier gowns, whilst pregnant Homeland actress Claire Danes swept everyone away in a simple and elegant canary yellow Lanvin number.

Surprises of the night included Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke, who looked fashion savvy yet polished in a structured dress from the Chanel Resort collection, and Nicole Kidman who looked fantastic in a white column dress from Antonio Berardi's Spring 2013 collection (seen on the runway just last week!) detailing turquoise and cobalt sequin embroidery.
