London Fashion Week: Peter Pilotto Spring / Summer 2013
Every season Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos bring us a riot of colour and print, so it was interesting to note that even these devotees of the bold and the beautiful decided to show a little black and white for Spring / Summer 2013. Along with the many blue hues we've seen in London, this monochrome look is definitely one of the key emerging colour trends of the season. Get ready to be Beetlejuiced next Summer!
Of course, this wasn't a simple use of black and white, as nothing is simple where these boys are concerned. Intricate prints adorned knee length skirts, shell tops, super-slim trousers and striped sweaters, before slowly coming alive with neon flashes, frills and collages prints in lilac and yellow, pale blue and orange.
The Peter Pilotto trademarks were all there - the crossover necklines, the slim skirts that flip out at the knee, the high waisted peplum tops - but they also branched out into new shapes. This is the first time we've seen the designers show full, stiff skirts, and there was also a beautiful mid-length tiered number covered in a jewelled print.
Texture was prominent not only in the sparkle that appeared halfway through, but also in knitwear with 3D embroidery, Indian beadwork and use of mirrors in the final evening dresses. Though there were no longer styles this season (did those maxis from Autumn / Winter not get the buyers excited?) the plethora of cocktail frocks will keep red carpet goers happy - no doubt we'll be seeing the mirrored monochrome dresses on a celeb fan very soon.
