Before Balenciaga even opened the second day of Paris Fashion Week, there was already a huge buzz around the show thanks to a certain Twilight actress in attendance. As the current face of Balenciaga's fragrance campaign, Kristen Stewart secured her usual spot on the FROW (next to the beautiful Salma Hayek and fashion queen Anna Wintour) and as the flashing of cameras finally subdued, the show was able to begin.

Designer Nicolas Ghesquiere confessed to Vogue before hand that his ready-to-wear SS13 collection was "the most sensual collection I've ever done", and from the moment the first model appeared on the catwalk, we could see why.

As always, the simple colour palette and determined cuts were androgynous at the core, but there was a distinctly sexy, feminine vibe with fabrics moulded to the bust and skin on show at every possible moment. White sports-style bralets were teamed with signature high-waisted trousers and appeared under tailored jackets, flamenco ruffles were fused to the waist to create a new peplum inspired shape, skirts were super short in the front with trailing hems in the back and cropped, boxy jackets and tops were graphic yet surprisingly prim.

Overall the collection was incredibly modern, despite the heritage details; Ghesquiere reworked tweed and boucle, dipped knits in glue and strung colourful leaf shaped leather over lace to create beautifully intricate dresses. Details and accessories were meticulously planned and executed - nothing felt overly styled. Pin stripes and barbed wire patterns were perfectly printed on pleated and pointed skirts, bucket bags were carried with precision and disjointed block heel shoes looked like modern works of art.

Highlights included a black severe sweetheart dress with fluted sleeves, an asymmetrical slashed skirt and visible cream lining, a boxy coat (in black and coffee) that featured oversized lapels and pockets, and a leggy dress that combined a purple lace effect top with a contrasting barbed wire/leaf cut/key hole yellow skirt that we can totally see K-Stew rocking on the red carpet some time soon...
