TOWIE's Gemma Collins launches her plus size clothing range this week
Gemma Collins, The Only Way is Essex's resident 'bubbly blonde' (one of many, surely?) will launch a plus sized clothing range this week, called Gemma Collins Collection.
The size 18 reality star has been giving us a taster of what's to come from the range during appearances on This Morning, and aims to bring the plus size market some much-needed Essex glam, with a range of dresses, jackets and cardigans in sizes 16 - 22.
Gemma says of the range, "I am so happy to be able to offer bigger girls a clothing range that they can show their curves off in - why should plus size girls be stuck wearing black and try to cover up? Just because you're bigger it doesn't mean you can't dress well and be glam - girls should be proud of their figure no matter what size you are - I am!"
All very admirable stuff, and any move to extend the availability of non-boring clothing above standard sizing is ok with us.
However, we'd like to question some of the claims about this range. The press release says that Gemma designed these creations after struggling to find fashionable clothes above a size 14. But we'd argue this is less about 'design' and more about 'curation'. Something tells me Ms Collins - like many a celeb designer - hasn't been anywhere near a sketchpad in the run up to the launch and has simply worked with suppliers to increase their size offerings.
The big clue? One of the key designs, a chain print wrap dress sported by Gemma above and used throughout all the publicity pics, has been floating around in smaller sizes on Goddiva.co.uk for £30 for months.
Designed your own range did you? Tut tut, Gemma!
