Even at sale prices, most of the dresses on Net a Porter are huge investments for many of us. With the cheapest frocks still selling for triple figures, you need to justify the expense. So if you're going to splash out on a designer sale treat, it makes sense to buy something that you'll get plenty of wear out of. Anything can be justified on a cost-per-wear basis; if you carry it every say for six months, a £500 Mulberry bag suddenly seems a much more sound investment than a £30 Lipsy dress you only wore once. Similarly, while that flash-in-the-pan designer trend piece reduced by 70% might be tempting...you could be better opting for a classic little black dress.

Which is why we've rounded up some of our faves from the Net a Porter sale. Proving LBD's don't necessarily have to be boring, these have embellishment, cool applique, interesting shapes and 'heritage' appeal (the McQueen one is similar to a certain famous bridesmaid dress). And they start at under £250...and that's for a leather Alexander Wang piece!
