MTV revives cult fashion show, House of Style
To say that we're excited is probably a bit of an understatement; MTV has announced plans to revive its popular Nineties fashion show, House of Style!
For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, here's the breakdown: the phenomenal cult fashion TV series was hosted by non other than supermodel Cindy Crawford (yes, the Cindy Crawford), and gave an insight into life as a model as well as sharing exclusive backstage coverage, interviews with designers, and even DIY tips and tricks - it was basically everything you could want from a fashion oriented show! At the time, no other show came close to House of Style. How could it when HOS discussed eating disorders one minute and guerrilla fashion shows with Sofia Coppola the next, when it sat with Naomi Campbell in a hotel room at 2am and looked on as she applied a generous amount of spot cream to her face, when it aired Cindy Crawford rapping with a fresh faced Will Smith?
According to Fashionista, MTV will be relaunching the brand in three stages, starting with a digital archive of the original episodes to stir up nostalgia amongst older fans and to entice another generation of fashion fans. Then, on August 7th a documentary called 'House of Style: Music, Models and MTV' will be released followed by the unveiling of the shows new host on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 6th. Finally, the channel will create new segments, which fashionista's will be able to access across all of the typical digital and social platforms.
It sounds like the big wigs at MTV have got it all figured out, but with so many shows these days focused on models and designers, is there room for any more? Do you think the new House of Style will tarnish the name of the old show, or are you looking forward to its revival? Do you have a dream model in mind to take over as the new regular host?
