Throughout the course of Haute Couture Fashion Week we have seen quite a few designers using face coverings as part of their collections. At Giambattista Valli web-like veils were attached with butterflies, while at Armani Prive models wore sheer coverings over their heads which were embellished with delicate jewels. At the Maison Martin Margiela Autumn / Winter 2012 couture show, the avant garde fashion house incorporated full head masks encrusted with giant colourful crystals. Goodbye face!

The sparkly face masks were not only a bold statement they were just one part of an eclectic collection which cleverly combined a plethora of various fabrics with an assortment of vintage styles. Reconstructed trousers, blouses and tuxedo jackets were created from lace and sheer panelling. Margiela's patchwork continued throughout the show with stitched up leather, floor-length silky evening dresses, spider web diamond encrusted halterneck tops, and long trench coats created from bold prints and intricate patterns.

But the stand-outs amongst this collection were the crystal-embellished headdresses. They will not be easily forgotten. It is something you can bet your bottom dollar Lady Gaga will be queuing up to order like now.
