Banana Republic unveils Anna Karenina-inspired collection
So inspired by the movie remake of Leo Tolstoy's classic Anna Karenina, Banana Republic have created a capsule collection based on the iconic novel. We first told you about the collection earlier this month, and now the retailer has unveiled it during a press preview last week.
WWD went along to the preview to snap some photos from the line which is the result of a collaboration between Focus Features and Banana Republic. It ties into the upcoming film remake of Anna Karenina which stars Keira Knightley, and was created in conjunction with the movie's costume designer, Jacqueline Durran.
With looks based upon 19th century Russia, Durran has given classic pieces such as a military jacket, a cape, lace dress, and a red cowl-back dress, a modern twist. With a palette predominantly made up of black items, the collection also features faux fur accessories (such as the traditional Russian fur hat), beaded clutches, feathered hair decorations and costume jewellery. In addition to a women's collection, there is also a 20-piece menswear line for the blokes.
The collection is due to hit Banana Republic stores in late October ahead of the film's release in November. Watch the trailer for Anna Karenina here.
