Frock Horror: No, Gretchen Mol. No.
The CFDA Awards demand runway-like attention to every last detail of styling, from accessories to fit. Unfortunately, former CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner Sophie Theallet in dressing Gretchen Mol may have fallen short of perfecting either of those concepts with this look.
Mol, with her beautifully soft figure, romantic blushing complexion and whispy hair is always in a bit of danger of conjuring an image of a Swiss milk maid. Putting her in this ill-fitting frock, where an off-the-shoulder neckline looks like the mismanagement of a strap rather than sexy asymmetry, just makes exacerbates that and makes her and the clothes look sloppy. The waist is too high and combined with the flared skirt to make her hips and bottom look out of proportion, which they are surely not. But the top is really the most tragic, from front or back. Oh for an extra fitting. The shoes round this litany of bad decisions.
One has to wonder if this really is a question of everyone kind of knowing the look wasn't right but there wasn't time to fix it, or if they really thought this looked awesome.
